I expect two things:
First of all, it's a sequel. In other games, they could screw us by saying "it's a new region, a new trainer. Sorry but your princess is in another castle. Here you have your lvl. 5 pokemon. Again". If it's a sequel, it'd be cool if we could transfer our team from B/W, set up the lvl top higer (lets say 200), and start the new story with trainers who uses pokemon around lvl. 70-80. But we all know this is an impossible dream.

This is nothing new. Blue, Red and the "sequel" Yellow were in GB. Gold, Silver and Crystal in GBC. Ruby Sapphire and Emerald in GBA. All third versions of the game were in the same portable console, so what's new here?

If you want to play the pokemon game, and dont have a DS, then you stop and say "for more bucks, I can buy the new console, is backwards compatible. Two birds, one stone".

You're right. The only surprise here is that they're using a number instead of a color. But maybe these are good news, and wont be the same game with new things, but a completely new game... with some old things.

It's not really that dumb. There's a lot more of DS users then 3DS users. And, if people -for some reason- want to play the new PKMN game, but doesnt have a DS or sold the old one, will buy the 3DS since it's backwards compatible.
It's a shame, since I wanna see a pkmn game designed for 3DS, but's not a dumb move at all.
Processor, RAM, GPU, Hard drive, fans... almost every console I know from the last two gens are essentially a pc in terms of tech.
