Wonderful news. That brings us one step closer to hopefully getting a legal precedent on the books that does for the PS3 what geohot did for the iphone.
It's been a long time coming.
Don't worry, give it about half a day and N4G will be back to our normally high standards of editorials about Bobby Kottick being the Anti-Christ and lists chronicling gaming's top ten instances of underboob.
"George Hotz isn't under fire for homebrew or custom firmware creation."
No, he's under fire for providing the public with the tools to create and run homebrew and custom firmware.
This is only a bad thing if you believe that the public should not be allowed to run those things in the first place.
"The problem is that those emulators are the exact same ones running on PCs"
I am not referring to emulators; even with Homebrew, something like PCSX2 is never going to run on a console.
I am referring to the PS3's basic backwards compatibility and game playing functions -- which you or anyone else can do *already*, albeit with rather unnecessary limitations (region locks, lack of English language settings, et cetera).

Hmm, I normally donate to the EFF at the end of every month, but since they're supporting geohot with legal help in this, I might as well cut out the middle man and send it straight to him.
It's going to a good cause either way.
"As most modders stay on 3.41 to run there homebrew."
Untrue. Most people in the modding community are on 3.55.
"Why do you think you have not seen a 3.56 yet. Homebrewers have no interst in using the latest firmware."
Again, untrue. We have seen 3.56 custom firmware. Unfortunately, unlike 3.55 firmware, there is currently no way to toggle between custom and official firmware at will, so installing it on the PS3 is a...
"The WII is easy to hack in order to play pirate games."
Fortunately for Sony, now the PS3 is, too.
"I really want an HD, open world Zelda RPG, full voice acting (Link is silent), maybe some online coop."
I don't know. At the rate Nintendo currently produces console Zeldas, something like that would take them roughly 20 years to develop.
Sin and Punishment 2, 3D Dot Game Heroes.
Truly, it is a magical world that we live in.

Get real. What's next? 'PS3 hackers able to reprogram your PS3 to attack you in your sleep'?
I don't see what the problem is. Pretty much all downloadable material on the internet carries the risk of viruses, worms, child pornography, malware, adware, spyware, trojans, and other security threats.
Fortunately, the modding community has a fairly strong defense against this sort of thing: an endless pool of courageous individuals willing to act as first-wave guinea pigs to verify that downloads are safe.
Speaking of, we should have a moment of...
"looks like you should be mad at the ones who abused hacking not us or sony its because of the abusers you lost your "freedom""
In the first place, you are acting like I can only be mad at one person at a time. Let me assure you, this is not the case.
In the second, there is such a thing as a reasonable response. If you respond to an action in a manner which is unreasonable, then yes, you bear blame for that.

Obviously, he's mad as hell about Sony taking away OtherOS.
Don't worry, we're not going to take that anymore.
"you people can try to justify this as much as you please,in the end of the day,you are nothing but pathetic pirates who love getting things for free"
If you want to try to insult and/or guilt trip me for something that I have never done nor intend to do, I suppose that is your right. However, I should advise you that such attempts will bounce right off of my clean conscience.
"instead of supporting your economy!"

"I could have sworn people on this site claimed that Sony can't do anything wonder where they are now"
Waiting for the CFW bans to start falling, because once they do, the CFW community can begin work to reverse-engineer the security checks to bypass it. It's a matter of time, really.
Worst case scenario, we have to buy a dirt-cheap used-PS3. Small price to pay for freedom. :-)
Meh, the people that have been banned are the ones trying to use a hole that's already been plugged. Wake me when they start banning the modders that actually keep up with the news.
"It was one of the last bastion away from the cheaters"
There is a very easy solution to this, it is called "Don't play with freaking cheaters."
They might not be thieves in the classical sense, but they *are* massive jerkwads.
That said, even massive jerkwads can be induced to become paying customers, and companies should be looking for ways to do so, as the current strategy of dealing with them is very clearly not working.
"Also all these things he is hacking to do could be done BEFORE!"
Nope. 100% false. OtherOS enabled a teeny tiny fraction of the type of mods the Homebrew community is currently working on.
"Sony has taken away one feature... they did it to stop piracy"
If Sony's intention in taking away OtherOS was to stop piracy, they clearly failed.
On the bright side, because they took it away, we now hav...
