It wouldn't just depend on third party games, which has very small royalty fees. It would largely depend on Sony's first- party stuff. That's the real bread and butter.
Sony still sells $500.00 PS3s. Which is, going by this info, making a profit.
$40.00 is not bad. The next hardware revision *could* make it profitable or very close even at $299.99. Reason being because of the first hardware revision which shaved off about $300.00, and this was back in 07.
The new 45nm PS3 should arrive this year.

In fact, the three processors that make up the 360's Xenon are based on the Cell's PowerPC based PPE! There was a recent article that drew attention to this.
However, just because the PowerPC units in each chip are nearly identical does not mean that the Cell and Xenon are ...

This game is going to be amazing. Indigo Prohecy was well received, and this looks to be a step up.
