You bought your games for your 360 or ps3. At no point did anyone involved in those transactions say that these 360/ps3 were compatible with consoles of the future. At no point during the current gen were posters put up in game shops saying these games were compatible with future tech. Gamers assumed that they would be, even against the backdrop of backwards compatibility being a complete bust this gen.

If it wasnt for second hand games i would never have bought COD4 MW and Assassins creed 1, luckily i did and as a result all subsequent games were bought new on release. (all apart from ass creed 3 and blops2) Greed is a nasty thing and those responsible should feel ashamed.

Game stores in the UK (especially in the mid sized towns) are excellent for used games. They have big clearances every few months. I got Mirrors edge, dead space 2 and Enslaved for the princely sum of £2. Thats for 3 games. It does pay to be thrifty sometimes.
