Sony was probably waiting to see what cards MS had up their sleeves and will now make adjustments as necessary in order to compete.

I don't get all the crying. I bought my PS4 day 1 and I have no problem with the PS4K, in fact, I welcome it. I may not pick it up on day 1 since I don't even have a 4K tv which is most likely the case for 90% of everyone else. It's great to know that a console will exist that I can buy to experience 4K console gaming should that time come though and not have to wait for a PS5.
What people don't realize is that the era of "consoles" that you know it are coming to an end. There used to be a time when new consoles were announced, they were in fact the latest and greatest but now that PCs have ran far beyond them, any new console that is released is pretty much already obsolete in terms of performance. The PS4 games that they showed off when the PS4 was announced looked good but it wasn't like we've never seen graphics quality at that level before...
The PS4K shares the exact same games, ecosystem, extra content. There's no "segregation" to be had if the PS4K rumors are even true.
I was on the fence about this but I'm completely okay with PS4k as long as they don't split the userbase. The PSVR could use the helping boost in power and 4k is beginning to become mainstream and down the line when it'll be the standard as 1080p, the PS4k can breath more life into the PS4's life cycle before the PS5 comes out. Or who knows, the PS5 could be out in three years.
Just remember you said this. You're going to feel like all those CEOs did who thought they were so smart putting down Apple's iPhone back in 2007 as crazy and outlandish, a fad, a product no one wants. There's a difference between Kinect, 3DTV and so on, no one wanted those, no one has ever asked for those. VR has been something that's been dreamed of for decades.
Red Dead Revengeance sounds better but I hated playing as Jack.. If anything, I hope it's a prequel and we play in Jack's old gang when he's just starting out. Read Dead Rookie?
I really hope Last Stand is something outlandish and crazy like aliens or something. This game would be so much better if it had a scifi bent to it. The Underground DLC gives me visions of the dark subway tunnels in Metro 2033 and Last Light.
StarVR is still far from a consumer ready product. If anything, by the time it is released to consumers, the next generation of headsets from Rift, Vive will be coming out. IMO, StarVR has great tech but I doubt they have the marketing power and the support to survive the market especially against players like a STEAM backed VIVE from HTC, A Facebook powered Rift, and a Sony powered 32 million ready player base PS4 VR. I'm guessing one of the bigger players will swallow them up and incorp...
No VR headset is 4k.. and even if they were, I'm not entirely sure any single graphics card could run double 4k at a constant 60fps. Yes, double, one for each eye.
VR will be big eventually but not right off the bat. The pricing is still a huge wall for some people. I'm guessing there will be a lot of people who end up buying this for others as gifts only to realize that they also need beefy computers to run that they may not have. Therein also lies a risk that ill informed people will buy it and see that their computers are too crappy for it and then blame the headset thus poisoning the market. Man, if I were Lucas, I wouldn't have sold the franchise for nothing less than 15 billion. It's crazy that some mobile company sold for more than Star Wars. What a crazy great deal Disney got. I'm starting to wonder if Mickey Mouse had a gun on Lucas over that deal.
It would have been awful. The Playstation was responsible for a paradigm shift in gaming. The advent of the PS1 is what's responsible for making most modern games we play today possible.

Agreed, Kratos before was just this angry dude that should have ended at GoW. In fact, David Jaffe never even meant for the series to get as far as GoW 3 and include the entire pantheon. Kratos' main beef was with Ares. in GoW 2, he was a worse God than Ares ever was. Kratos became very unlikeable, This is a new, less angry but much more focused Kratos. There will be those who won't like it but either they'll give in or be left out who cares.
