That actually could be for the best in this case. Microsoft's future seems more likely than ever to go third party and make software available for all. Also, having Microsoft's backing could make the game soar to greater heights as long as the vision is maintained. The extra legal counsel could also help against any potential lawsuits, not that it'll help the case for it should it happen but they won't have to worry about trying to fight off Pokemon's lawyers alone.

I can't believe Rebirth sales have been lower than Remake. All I can think is that people are either waiting for the third game to drop in years down the line or they're waiting for a PC version or a sale. I think PC is just the future. Games nowadays are held back by consoles. Playing FF7 Rebirth right now and I'm just dying for a PC version that isn't so laggy and textures still deciding to whether they want to load or not.. I can't help but dream of this game being made entirely for PC with no console chains to hold them back.
For me, there's only one game from the PS1 era that would be equal to a FF7:RE and it's Xenogears, mainly because I want them to finish disc 2 properly. I don't even need it to be the extent of FF7:RE super graphics.
I would be disappointed if it wasn't.
I honestly can't believe they wasted the last 10+ years on this crap instead of Elder Scrolls 6. This is the worst timeline.
