Your theory is sound and would be perfect for MS considering the current ecosystem the console is designed for. However, if this were the console they were talking about it would be almost stripped of its identity. It would lack disc drive and also require new firmware to operate as a full fledged DVR.
i just did a stock check at target in 30024 where i live for XB1. 50% of the stores listed in the area register having XB1 in stock to purchase (in store only). it does look bad for MS considering the amount of regions they are releasing in. I do hope MS can get it together.
i don't want to sound like a hater either but while the tech may be solid i have seen quite a few live streams with the kinect and it really does come off as a bit frustrating. Having to say Xbox every time you want to do something is irritating but their is also the dialect issue. I was watching the gamespot live Kinect review and the guys were having to repeat themselves 2 or three times to get the system to recognize the command.

cheap repairs, maybe.. but the final repairs cost will probably be contingent on how MS makes the firmware accessible if the drive needs to be replaced or refreshed.
Its likely that MS doesn't want to release a firmware download setup a replaced hard drive. We will probably see usb based hard drive solutions. MS wants to keep the OS inaccessible.
have to admit this is really exceptional response time. Hopefully the hardware related issues are ironed out before the US gets its second wave of units.
maybe you have been asleep at the keyboard, their has been a massive amount of trolling on the launch issues surrounding the PS4. The only reason you are seeing a drop in it now is because MS has lifted the Embargo on the XB1. all of those fans are busy sucking in live feeds and information from now till launch, on thursday night
The reviews on DR3 and KI have been lackluster at best.
@Mystogan, you are really gonna throw the percentage up that high?? do your research. many Claims of faulty consoles have been duplicated by customers to bolster defective numbers as well as people claiming defective consoles that they actually never purchased one.

Sony has upped the defective console count to a hair under 1%. If they are caught lying about it, it will have and adverse effect on their stock and would ruin the entire launch. So your theory of this being BR BS is unfounded bias.
Ok so i have a question. Are MS FTP games behind the Gold paywall or are they really accessible to everyone. I know that PS4 FtP games are accessible to all gamers.
Actually i think dualshockers did a really in-depth article that showed that amazon some amazon shoppers were multi-posting on different console skus' to drive up the failure rate.

actually i think we will see both those houses(ND and R*) bringing true next gen gaming to the forefront. Especially since both tend to focus on different types of genres.
Wouldn't mind seeing a slightly more open world in Uncharted that allows for some more variation in tactics and exploration.
The facts in the article are relevant but as everyone else has said why not just be glad that sales were good for the console and leave it at that. This article stinks of favoritism(yeah i know they touched on all the other consoles as well). had this been a XB1 article it would have sung high praise for it saying it is the best thing since the invention of the wheel and sales show it.

lots of valid issues, but to me its not fair as the PS4 is plagued with some of the same issues as the XB1 such as no access to external hard drives.
great read. gotta admit the inclusion of the multiple posts on the amazon pages was disturbing. Although i disagree with the author on the issue of false claims of defective systems. Because i believe It is highly likely that a few of these claims of defective systems may well be fanboys just trying to increase negative press.
can i prove it, no. But the way this console war has developed it is highly possible.
Its possible that they may release a new XB1 without kinect, against their message and from what i can see also against their system design. But it could well be that they release one with a updated chipset to to boost power. just a theory though.
Personally though releasing a revamped XB1 this early would be bad for them as it would send a message of insecurity to the consumer. even if it was just a sku that had the kinect removed.
