Big fan of Steam, but I agree that Greenlight is flawed.
It's a straight up popularity contest, but the best is almost never the most popular.
Aside from Bioshock, have there been any hits this year?
I'd say that God of War, Gears of War, DMC, Revengeance have all underperformed. Tomb Raider actually did well, but SE have some crazy targets.
I think some of the crazy big games, like GTA 5 and COD will still perform well at the end of the year - but there's a definite end of generation lethargy settling in.
I've built up quite a backlog of games this gen that I'm s...
"Freedom Wars"?
"Dr. F"?
Is it a competition to have the most generic names ever? Seriously, Freedom Wars?!
This list was written by a child. It's like the world began in 2000.
Team Fortress for Quake.
Counter-Strike for Half Life.
Those two actually did change the industry. Team Fortress introduced the headshot to gaming, Counter-strike has probably influenced every FPS since.
Honorable mention goes to Desert Combat which definingly set the course for the Battlefield series.
There's a phone number in the trailer - 415-507-7616.
Someone call it.
Depends how Valve play it. Steam does support games with third party subscriptions, but if Valve force companies to go through Steam - Valve could lose out.
So I seem to have got some disagrees, let's put this simply -
Headline – “PC Innovation Lags”
Content – “consoles have slowly been stealing what works on the PC”
I think what the author meant was, PC Innovation Leads.
Now is the completely wrong time to future proof your PC. Wait till next-gen comes out, see what it can actually do - and then get a graphics card that does it all.
I have some 8800 variant in my gaming PC from 2008. Outperforms consoles, 5 years later.
I cannot believe the author believes that the PC is stagnant yet claims in the article that "consoles have slowly been stealing what works on the PC and incorporating it into their devices".
Surprise surprise. PCs lead the way, and consoles "slowly" catch up. I guess you can look forward to Free-2-play when next-gen rolls around too, innovation!
Japan has never been a PC gaming market, so there's a bit of a cultural issue. With next-gen being PC architecture though, multiplatform porting costs will fall, so you'll see more of them.
Dark Souls 2 is going to give the PC version the same priority as the consoles versions for example.
PC sales are non existent in your petty charts because they've all moved to digital now.
You don't need to put together a powerful PC to catch up with the consoles. Just spend a console's worth of cash on a graphics card.
The PC elitists are able to back it up in a way the "power of the cell", "I like paying for online" crowd don't.
avoiding to buy at launch = waiting for a sale
And let's not avoid showing how flawed the survey is, when you don't have the option of "games are cheaper now/free to play exists".
Used games on PC? Nowhere near used games sales on consoles.
There are no used games on PC. It's why PC games are cheaper.
I mean, if you'd preordered Bioshock Infinite on Steam or GreenManGaming, you got 3 AAA games for free - one of them being XCOM. How awesome was that?
It's OK though Tyre, you'll be able to upgrade to a PC soon too - only you'll call it "next generation", and have to pay for online.
Humble Bundle too, and all sorts of other crazy sales.
Last game I bought, just a few weeks ago, was Spec Ops: The Line and Darksiders 2, both for PC, on sale at GameFly as a bundle for £2.66.
You can't even buy a pint for that.
I doubt that the costs for the Next box are as high as the costs they've been putting into Windows Phone or Surface.
Great going Nintendo. This looks worse than the original Yoshi's Island. It'll look even worse in 3D.
I'm a UK taxpayer. I do not want my taxes ploughed into games industry subsidies.
@NathanExplosion
That wasn't the point. I was making a response to a claim that exclusivity was down to developers wanting to push the limit, and not the glaringly obvious marketing support and other kickbacks from the platform holder.
If you really want to push the limits, you don't give a crap about "a wide range of specs", you don't give a crap about multiplatform. You just build the best thing possible, and hope you make money some...
What a ridiculous record, what does it even mean? From what I understand, Warface is not a single server MMO style shooter like planetside, so everyone is playing in little instances, which makes this award meaningless. It's a pathetic PR release and nothing else.
