The Xbox x is a product for the current Xbox hard-core user base. Is not a product that will change the disappointing performance of Xbox this generation overall.
When your exclusive games sell as good as this, there is no need to put them on a game pass subscription based model at $10 monthly.

If those games are available on other platforms, let's say PC, then they are not Xbox one exclusives. People know this and yet they want to ignore it and pretend they are exclusives.

Apart from all the good stuff that was revealed that day, I remember the how xbox team went to Twitter arrogantly trying to make fun of the reveal by saying "a console reveal without the console".
5 years later, not only Xbox needs to eat their words but ironically, they also did the same with the Xbox X reveal saying "if Sony did it, we can too"
Due to game pass, Microsoft will not talk about sale numbers of the game and is going to talk about game pass subscriptions.

Game pass is good for xbox and their current situation in the market. The other 2 competitors have a healthy business model and market share so they don't need to do this kind of moves to survive.
Sony and Nintendo are on a bigger league and they are in no need to put the hard work of their developers at a 9.99 price. The quality of playstation and Nintendo games are worth $60 and people will continue to pay that for quality products.
