The way that this is written makes me want to A.) never play MW2 again and B.) pick up Battlefield Bad Company 2.
I've fixed a disc with toothpaste, too. It was a real lifesaver. One of my discs for Engineering an Empire came scratched right out of the package, and wouldn't read at all until I buffed it with some toothpaste.
Might not work on a 360 eating a disc, but that isn't really what the fixes are supposed to do.
