Odd, no problems here on my PS4 Pro. Just a couple of network problems but for errors relating to full servers.

Destiny does not need subscription for multiplayer, unless you're talking about PSN Plus or Xbox Live Gold. In that case it applies to all multiplayer games, not just destiny.
Destiny at the beginning was skimpy on story, but now with the DLCs is very meaty. And Destiny 2, by the looks of trailers and interviews will deliver even more story and activities than before.

It is not the first, nor it will be the last time, that Bungie makes a blunder and then delivers. That has happened before since their Myth days (even in Marathon to a lesser extent). With Destiny they improved on it non-stop. And now they want to make up for their blunder in their sequel.

It's a shame there won't be 60fps for consoles, but if you have the hardware, you can have Destiny 2 with 4k and over 60fps on PCs.
Also, I agree that Destiny gets lots of hate for some reason or other. Couldn't buy a PS4 before, finally could and opted for PS4 Pro instead. Can't really complain, like, AT ALL. Feels awesome, Boost mode actually made it better, current games are awesome, future games look even better.
Point? I didn't 'upgrade', I couldn't buy it before and when I could I bought the Pro version. Awesome product.
Pro-consumer indeed. And I think it's fair. Many games are just crap. And since there are almost no demos to speak of, you actually have to play the game (needing to buy it) when the are no reviews that persuade or dissuade you enough to make a decision. Also this forces companies to stop making crappy games.

It was always meant as Destiny as a franchise, not a single game with expansions. Plus this first game's foundation was based primarily on past generation consoles (ps3, xbox 360), so now they want a new foundation that takes advantage of new consoles (ps4, ps4 pro, xbox one, scorpio, PC -rumored-) going forward. That was and still is the plan. The story continues, just with a new game and expansions.
On today's announcement they acknowledged what they originally said and gave a reason why they will 'restart' the guardians (although some things WILL carry over btw):

Still don't understand why they haven't release the first game as a remaster! It's an incredible game!
The article was way shorter than I hoped. And yeah, Destiny 2 really needs tons more content than 1 with all DLCs. And of course, much better story. And this coming from someone that still plays it at least once per week.
The problem is, a great number of people can't afford to buy two consoles. So when they commit to a platform they usually forfeit the other one. Even in the case that they have a PlayStation 4 and a PC (albeit a normal-slow one) that doesn't mean they will buy games for both. People stick to one for whatever reason (friends, price, promos, etc.) and they buy only the games they really like.
So yeah, in a way, they are missing out. Tbh Cuphead is very good AND cheap...
