"What the check" indeed. What the very large, ultimately inconsequential check is wrong w/ games companies paying for timed exclusivity. When games were happening regardless, it's just pointless. CD already said that the game was going to happen w/ or w/o MS' involvement, to me all this does is put CD under the gun to release the game on Microsoft's terms instead of on their own, and it could potentially result in a gimped & inferior title. Time will tell I suppose. ...
MS isn't funding the game in the traditional sense, they are footing the bill for marketing & they paid for their timed exclusive status. They are also co-publishing the title for Xbox. None of that excludes a future PS release. It'll hit the platform sooner than later I'd assume, no one would actually want MS to foot the full bill for a game that was already happening (from the developers mouth) because it takes away a huge amount of funds that could've funded a first par...
Totally agree. Also, we have this method of VERY early marketing to blame for the downgrades that seem to be running so rampant. If companies showed off their games in the 6-9 month window as you suggested, or even 12 months at the most, they would be more representative of what the final product will ultimately be. At the very least, there should be no true gameplay footage released until 6 months out from gold status. I don't care if it effects the companies' preorder numbers, its s...
What about the "wind effects"? I was watching some gameplay footage the other day & the wind physics were totally off, small grass thrashing w/ the exact same velocity as huge sturdy trees and what would amount to gale force winds blowing at all times, even w/ the clearest of skies. Maybe it was just one small section, but that would get annoying if it's persistent.
Yet another example of a developers reach being much further than their grasp...why make 200 hours worth of game if half is superfluous & bugs are aplenty? That's typically why I check out on large titles like this, my time is valuable to me & I'd rather have a rock solid couple hours of play as opposed to dozens of hours worth of playtime that ultimately ends up again with only a couple hours worth of worthwhile content. Really hoping Arkham Knight keeps the Rocksteady patter...
It definitely is, but my eye can't tell much of a difference between this & the original title which already looked absolutely phenomenal. Maybe playing on a big screen instead of a laptop would help but I'm more of the camp that this didn't necessarily need to happen. A straight port of the collection & the vita titles would've been a better bet, if you are wanting to get new PS gamers on board the GoW train, whereas this is just a slight improvement on an already mas...
I agree…to me the Arkham games are some of the best, little bits of gameplay that contain their own narrative that are additive to the main one & the characters. Rockstar does a good job from time to time as well. So many other titles typically use fetch quests & repetitive tasks that are obviously just padding. If you have good story beats to tell or cool new mechanics that didn't fit the main narrative then side missions are great…if you have neither of those things then side mi...
If so, i'm a masochist right along w/ you. I even collected all of the pointless 'Enigma Items' in Arkham Origins, only to get the lamest prize of all time. Hopefully the fewer trophies isn't because another 100 will only be available by pre ordering the ungodly dlc deal. I was looking forward to just picking & choosing the actual story bits that I wanted from it.
I'm thinking they will use the 20th anniversary theme they've been teasing w/ to announce lifetime additions for PS Now…throwing in titles from every Sony console would be a worthy 20th anniversary celebration for sure. One or two interesting AAA game announcements, progress reports on announced titles & some interesting new indies would make for a great conference in my eyes. Morpheus might be difficult to demo for people w/o hands on the tech but I'd love to see more final t...
Seems like all of those could be likely aside from CDPR actually admitting to their downgrade. Pretty shameful the way they are trying to blame gamers for 'unrealistic expectations' when those are only expectations created by the devs themselves. I'd rather see a game look shoddy in its first reveal & watch it get incrementally better towards release than the reverse that we've seen in almost every major title these days. Lot of apologists saying we should temper our expec...
Anything can happen, but Sony has the most potential for true surprises. MS blows their load early & chances are we know the majority of what'll be on offer. Sure it might all look amazing, but aside from finding out what Rare is working on and seeing Gears 4 unveiled, MS doesn't have many, if any other first party studios that are unaccounted for whereas Sony has at least a half dozen major first party devs w/ great track records working on unannounced titles, not to mention game...
Friday the 13th will most assuredly not be better as it's a mp only game. Pretty hard to be frightened when what you are really being chased by is Jason as played by a 12 year old making mama jokes every time he gets close by. I really wish they'd have made it an offline game. Until Dawn will obviously be the more suspenseful of the two, and by that logic, the better "horror" title, regardless of player movement.
I personally see Sony foregoing the outdated model of putting all of their titles out for the holidays. Seems like they are getting the mindshare for the biggest selling games during those time windows year in & year out: the 3rd party ones. Sure Halo will sell better than something like AC, but how often do Halo titles drop? If Sony creates good relationships w/ the biggest 3rd party titles and grabs the majority of those sales over the holidays, then puts their exclusives out during mor...
"Techinical" should take into account more than simply graphical fidelity. Mechanics, A.I., performance, art direction, open level design & most importantly for this instance, story. The one thing that is absolutely a foregone conclusion in regards to Crytek is that they are absolutely awful at story & making a game anything more than a showpiece for graphics cards. Naughty Dog are "technically the best" because they receive high marks for every category of games d...
Really doesn't take into account the linearity of Ryse vs. the wide open areas in the UC4 demo. There is absolutely zero vertical traversal in Ryse & you are being funneled through a narrow path. Haven't played Ryse but that section is more linear than even the first Uncharted title. UC4 is taking a sandbox approach w/ multiple potential paths & whip smart A.I. Not to mention what the others have said about UC4 being in pre-alpha. At the end of the day, Naughty Dog's games...
When Remedy announced the delay for Quantum Break, didn't they also say that the next appearance of the game would be Gamescom? Or was that last year & I'm just getting the 2 mixed up? Either way, that one would be my most anticipated for sure, definitely looks like a winner in my eyes.
Totally agree. True innovation only comes through incremental iteration. Anyone still crying for some huge leap will ultimately be met w/ a broken & buggy mess, per what we have seen over & over this gen already w/ games that try to shoehorn in new things that ultimately subtract more from an experience than they add. You want to know what a big innovation would be for the AC series in my eyes? A story that makes any kind of sense whatsoever. If Syndicate finally tries to deliver a co...
All 3 of those are 2016 releases at the earliest, seems like the article was poorly worded as it should've said upcoming Xbox titles from 2015, which is what the lead in alluded to.
I'm seeing 2 different settings, not really all that many. I've kept up on every bit of info released on this game & from the directors themselves it sounds like we have the primary setting in the Siberian wilderness, then a small detour most likely around the beginning of the game of a small desert type space. I was personally looking forward to a leap similar to UC1 to UC2 where there were many new locales & areas to visit because they promised as much in the early marketing...
I totally agree 100%. The late game timed deals are just weak really, especially for it being a story focused game & the deal keeping more than half of your audience from being able to continue the story. It is pretty crazy that we are only a few months from release of Tomb Raider & we still haven't seen a single second of actual gameplay, only bullshots from magazines. It's got me thinking that CD are kinda under the gun to push it out asap & it might suffer for it. Oh we...
