Actually, a LOT of ppl on this site want Nintendo to lose. For many, the success of the Wii means the end of core gaming.
As w/ any console, it's all about the games. And as PS360WII has stated, the DS has lots of them.
The DS hardware may not be as powerful as the PSP, but the side effect of that is that the DS has lower dev costs, which translates into more games by more devs and publishers (including industry bigwigs like Square-Enix). In addition, the DS can be played w/ the d-pad as well as the stylus, which opens the door for new types of games and gameplay never before seen on any console...
Now we just need NA and EU release dates.
I don't consider myself a "core gamer" but if I were, I'd own ALL the consoles (Wii included).
Where's FF4 for the DS?
EDIT @PS360WII:
I'm guessing the voice-overs are the culprit. I was really hoping to play FF4 very soon. *cries*
I would actually argue that "hardcore gamers" started giving up on Nintendo 1st w/ the advent of the PS1.
How do you know?
EDIT @sidar:
Just asking cuz I thought I was the only one that knew that. Wait...
I couldn't stop laughing after they showed a side-by-side comparison of the scrolling credits from Ninja Breadman and Anubis II hahaha
I'm w/ you purin. When my gf's 16-yr old cousin plays Halo online, he talks so much $h!t that I feel like punching him. And I'm not even playing! That kind of negativity only breeds more negativity.
I remember the good ole days playing Quake 2 when ppl would type "ns" for "nice shot" or "g1" for "good one" whenever u'd frag them. Voicechat has since made taunting and trash-talking commonplace.
A rhetorical question whose foundation can be proven false by doing a little research, or a serious question?
Action-oriented games don't work on it? Zelda: TP, MP3, and RE4 must've just been a figment of my imagination then. O, and apparently Mario Galaxy is a "simple" platformer.
Duh midgard.
Aside from the mini-games in Super Monkey Ball on Wii and WiiSports, Big Brain Academy is an awesome drinking game for crowds. Split off into teams and do best of 3 runs in which everyone on the losing team has to take a shot. Obviously because it's a game that requires thinking, it gets tougher and tougher as the night goes on. By the end of the night, ppl loathe getting the Wii remote handed off to them lol
and realize that the "greatest ____ of all time" is totally subjective. Not everyone measures greatness by the same criteria.
Unfortunately, great titles aren't always best-sellers. Okami for PS2 technically "bombed" in my opinion.
EDIT @MK below:
Bubbles man. So very true unfortunately. I myself am gonna try to pick up Zack and Wiki today at Circuit City since it's on sale this week. Hopefully they have some copies left.
Negative Wii news stories tend to attract cóckroaches too.
Plz don't slit your wrists over it.
Metacritic stats/reviews for top Wii 3rd-party games:
RE4: Wii Edition - 91
Zack & Wiki - 87
GH3 - 85
MLB Power Pros - 83
Madden 07 - 81
Lego Star Wars - 80
Trauma Center: SO - 80
"Pure garbage" is a little extreme.
Totally agree w/ u there. I was traumatized as a child seeing that boxart, and the image has stayed w/ me ever since. As a matter of fact, I probably could have drawn a boxart of similar quality as a child.
Ah yes, gaming was so different back then. Ppl played games, not consoles. Most innovation was in the gameplay department. Ppl went to eachother's house to play games together. Getting a game to work by blowing into the cartridge brought on an intense feeling of satisfaction.
Who would've thought that "Final" Fantasy was just the beginning?
