The following comment sealed the deal for me:

"Hopefully it won't be bending the rules to far to reveal that they [the cut-scenes] represent about half of the content of the game."

No way I am playing a game that is half cut-scenes. I think this is a love-hate type game and like all JPRGs I have seen - don't love it. And before you say "you can skip the cut-scenes" - that is how the game was intended to be played and no doubt brings somethin...

By now we all know that the PS3 architecture is more difficult to program - if you spend the same resources on both, the PS3 will either be a crappy version or take longer to get it right. But since the other versions are ready they might as well release them and start making money.

I am hopeful that the problems Sony has run into will make Sony stop doing what Sony wants and start thinking more about the developers. Because this generation shows that Sony cannot rest on its pa...

But otherwise I don't see the advantage of another upscaling DVD player - the market is full of them (Oppo makes a good one and my HD DVD player is pretty good as well).

The real problem for Bluray is the price of a movie - if they don't get it below $25 soon DL is going to take over before Bluray ever really picks up steam.

I read this as suggesting that improvements that are being made to the PS3 version would also be incorporated into the 360 version (kinda like Oblivion). A new version of the game would be sold but previous purchasers could download a patch.

But I seriously doubt the enhancements would make it worth buying again if you already played - just a nice bonus for everyone that has not yet played Bioshock.

To pharaphrase Yahtzee - JPRGs can suck all the want as long as they do it far from me. Just one of those game types that I don't enjoy and cannot understand why anyone likes it.

Obviously a number of people don't agree but that is why they make different types of games I guess.

That they are going to have a background install rather than a large upfront delay. Always seemed like the obvious way to do it to me - use the initial period when things are happening slowly to download and do the install - glad to see Bethesda is getting smart about it.

Dr. Rothschild did not work for MS and was a true innovator - her inventions made bluray possible. Of course Sony (and any other Bluray company) would prefer to not pay for the right to use the technology but when there is a clear infringement case - you settle. That is what Sony did.

Chill on the fanboi BS and just realize that corporations are looking to make as much money as possible (and that it is cheaper if you can avoid paying the license). Once you are caught you tak...

Programming has trouble taking advantage of multiple cores - much rather have two or four faster cores for the same amount of power.

Nvidia can see the writing on the wall - raytracing on a CPU eliminates the need for a GPU - and is hoping to avoid that outcome but a combination makes no sense. What is more interesting is that possibility of a ray-tracing ASIC as a GPU - based on what I have seen it would be possible to do ray tracing for reasonable frame rates at 1280 by 720 resolution for very complex scenes right now without further algorithm improvements - which have been steadily made as people start to realize the b...

You have to expect that with Moore's observartion and the increased amount of memory a PC with two 512 MB cards could have nicer textures than a console with 256 MB card (running at a slower rate, I might add). In the end, textures are based on the number of triangles and there is no easy substitute for memory when you want to increase the number of triangles.

But as said many times in this thread - the cost isn't worth it. I personally hope the next gen of consoles include a...

I would like to see MS spend some of that money to "encourage" the release of Jade Empire 2, sooner rather than later.

Once the bar is moved, you have to get close. Sounds like there were some good ideas in Haze that were poorly implemented.

I will agree everyone that is annoyed about the previews but the reality is that sites give nice previews so they get an early crack at the final game. Once they get the final game they tend to be a little more independent.

I kinda expected the AI to be mediocre(the PS3 is not a AI powerhouse - much better at other things) but to have poo...

But there is a difference between 640 and 576 - that is significant step back (10% less) and it doesn't sound like Haze has two frames being worked on at the same time.

720 is the sweet spot for both - but there is a huge difference between 1280x720 versus 1024x576. The 360 does have an advantage on the GPU side but seriously, this just speaks of mediocre decision making in my mind.

MS also has this little known exclusive coming out - another one of those hardcore gamer titles that people enjoy.

Frankly, I don't see Sony having as much of an advantage as I expected in the area of exclusive games (in part because of the PC/360 connection). Of course, you may not consider those exclusive games but since I couldn't play them on my PC (not enough juice) they are defacto exclusives for me.

In my mind the biggest thing going for Sony is bluray be...

I personally am somewhat surprised to see it is so close - I though Sony's internal studio advantage would cause them to pull away. I wonder if the additional difficulty in programming the PS3 is holding people back. In any event, you cannot call the 360 a shooter console with such a diverse line-up. And either the PS3 or the 360 owner has plenty to be excited about. Now we just need a time machine so I can go back in time at 4 am and still get a good night's sleep.

Nothing you mentioned sounds remotely interesting to me and the Wii is better for mini-games (which I don't like) I don't need an additional service to watch movies or play music or the like. My console plays games and I don't walk around trying on outfits.

Hope it works out for Sony - but I don't see the attraction for hardcore gamers. And I don't think many casual gamers are going to buy a $400 system. But we shall see.

But anyway you look at it, MS was the first this gen to 10 million in the US. And unlike the last generation, they will be continuing to sell the 360 for a long time - because this time they own the design and can keep selling it for less as they reduce the cost. Add in the good games and the fact that it is easier to program for and there is no doubt that MS is doing much better this time than last time. Heck, they are already making a profit. I bet you Sony doesn't make a profit on the ...
