You are an idiot - I don't know why you keep posting the same crap over and over. The GPU on the XBOX 360 is superior to the GPU on the PS3. Basically, once you consider everything, the two machines are roughly equal in capabilities but the XBOX 360 is easier to program for.
For the rest - this is only a rumor but there is a big difference between MS and Sony - MS has the money to encourage Japanese developers to develop for their console. At this point in time I am not sure...
HD adoption has been faster than expected but the real reason the games are lame is that you cannot do much with the Wii that hasn't already been done.
Want to make better use of physics? Sorry.
Want HD graphics? Sorry.
Want smarter AI? Sorry.
Want better lighting? Sorry.
Want to have a ton of detailed ememies on the screen at the same time? Sorry.
Want to pay a premium for the hardware with the expectation that the third party ...
Ray tracing as used in video games is reverse ray tracing that starts from a person's eye (or some point in front of the screen) and projects a line through every pixel. So the ray tracing we will see is not the true ray tracing (which is very wasteful computationally) and what you described in 6.1.
I suspect the next gen consoles will be capable of this but the real question is will it be worth it. Ray tracing makes it very easy on the graphics people - you just design the...
I don't think Sony has a chance to catch up until 09, at the very earliest. Price matters and Sony will not be in the $300 range until the end of 08. By then, MS will be at $200. The price factor, IMHO, will prevent Sony from ever catching up. There are some nice games in development for Sony - but there is nothing that Sony has that is a real differentiator.
FPS - XBOX 360 has more
RPG - XBOX 360 has more (right now, more western and JRPG)
Sports games - equa...
Stop the stupidity already. The XBOX 360 is superior to the PS3 in graphics - it has (and always will have) an advantage in memory - at least because the OS on the PS3 is a memory hog (assuming you can use the split memory of the PS3 efficiently). So it will always have an advantage in textures. The graphic chip for the XBOX 360 is simply superior.
It also has an advantage in AI - because it is better at out-of-order instructions.
The PS3 has an advantage in p...
You are correct. The other thing that is interest, at least to me, is that the second Sony releases a $400 PS3, MS will likely drop the price of the xbox 360 to $300.
They would have done so already but sales are decent and they are still getting the falcon into the system (why push sales if you are concerned about warranty issues - even if the new heat sink solves the issue). Once the Falcon is in full flight, I suspect MS can make a profit at $300. So trying to make sure...
Cannot see how you would feel cheated - you knew what you were buying. I personally would feel annoyed - Sony said it wasn't possible to do Rumble and Sixaxis but anyone with a brain knew that was BS. Frequencies are completely different.
So about all you could feel is annoyed that Sony lied about the reason - which was they didn't want to pay money to Immersion (and indirectly MS). If Sony had settled up front everyone would be enjoying rumble from the beginning.
...
If only Nintendo hadn't been so cheap.
The problem with the XBOX 360 is that there is too much heat generated. This has a number of unintended effects. The heat sink just helps mask the problem. The falcon reduces the amount of heat and will eliminate the problem. The real question for me (my launch + 3 months console is still working fine) is whether the Falcon will be quieter - if the stupid DVD drive is a better version then I might be tempted. But I will probably wait until the price of the Core drops below $200 and then ...
The PS3 is weaker than the XBOX 360 when it comes to AI - the PS3 architecture does not (and cannot) handle the out-of-order code that is what AI is all about. The advantage the PS3 has is in physics. So if you wanted to make destructible environments than the PS3 is probably going to be better (which is why Crysis is more likely to be ported to the PS3 - IMO). If you want intelligent enemies, the XBOX 360 is going to be better. Having said that, you can do a lot with scripts that give th...
There is no doubt that Bluray has a major head start because of the PS3s sold, but the format war is still in its infancy. And if it turns out that HD DVD wins, then Sony and Disney will release in HD DVD. But in general, I suspect you are correct.
I am going to wait a little while personally - I love HD movies but I am not buying a stand alone player until it is $200 or less. Besides, I don't buy many movies anyway - it is very rare when I find a movie is worth watching mor...
Only go there if you want malware loaded onto your machine (I hate when web sites do that kind of crap).
Your saying that between now and March 2008 Sony is going to sell something like 9 million units? That is not going to happen. The cost of the PS3 is simply too high. Hard core gamers have bought it and eventually the PS3 may be turn out to be a great platform (we will have to see what 2008 really brings) but the mass market appeak requires something in the range of $300 or less IMO. $350 is a great deal for the XBOX 360 and should help push sales but if MS can hit $300 then sales will st...
But Sony needs to change the mind of millions - not thousands.
No one that looks at the games on the XBOX 360 versus the Wii feels the Wii is superior. So the quicker MS can get to $200-$250 the quicker MS can win. My only question is how long before the explosion of HDTV makes the Wii a non-factor (or will it - it does for me but will it for everyone else?).
I don't get the love the mass market has for the Wii but if you are selling all you can make a price drop is just stupid. Might as well laugh all the way to the bank.
Now that MS has allowed games to require the HDD, the advantage of the Bluray is gone (this doesn't lock anyone out - it just requires the core owners to get with it). You can create procedurally (the XBOX 360 has this nice hardware feature that helps in that regard) and the size of the optical storage is irrelevant (hence the bluray advantage becomes merely a stone around Sony's neck). $350 for a premium with HDD and HDMI is a pretty great deal (I wish I had HDMI but then I would have to g...
except maybe Sony. The HDD is an optional purchase, it can be purchased by anyone with a core system. Perhaps the price of the HDD - which is way too high - will drop in the meanwhile.
More importantly, the whole reason for having Bluray was just made obsolete. Proceedural generation of graphics allows for relatively small amounts of code to generation large amounts of images. A DVD is sufficient (and being faster and cheaper - it turns out to be a better choice).
I think 2010-2011 is when the next round of consoles are unleashed. One thing I am wondering is whether the next round will use raytracing. Anyone that has studied this can tell you there are more computationally efficient ways to do graphics. But the beauty of ray-tracing is that it would make it very simple to do graphics. Just create the models and you are done. No need to have tons of graphic designers spending hours trying to make things look right - things would look right naturall...
The fact that the Cell is a beast and can do fp instructions out the butt is irrelevant to whether the PS3 is a good game console. Its like saying a funny car would make a great F1 race care because it has a really powerful motor. I bet a Miata could probably beat a funny car on a lot of F1 race courses.
In the end Sony made some stratgic mistakes - their architecture was poorly thought out and makes it difficult to use the power that is available. I suspect that from a gam...
