MMO's would definitely benefit the most, but things like AI, Shadows, Particles etc are all great uses for cloud compute.

It does all the AI computations so the CPU on the X1 can focus on player computations. Very good use in this game since it allows for so much to go on at one time without costing anything to the core gameplay computing.

Forza 5 did plenty of talking. It is the ONLY AAA exclusive that is running 1080p and 60fps.

According to AMD, parallel computing provides a 2.4 times performance gain. So they might be underselling it a little.

You can run any code in parallel on DX12, which means you get an added GPU in the CPU. For the Xbox One this is especially big because of the way the architecture was laid out. The BUS for the CPU on X1 is 30GB/s which is unheard of. Even on the highest end PC's you won't find that.

Not really, both PS4 and Xbox One will get much more powerful as parallel operation become the norm. Xbox One in particular though because of its high speed bus.

@Lukas: DX12 allows any code to be run in parallel, which is the whole premise of the article. Read it!

Textures most definitely vary based on resolution at least for me, I usually package for multiple resolutions. And in many cases models as well, although I prefer to keep the poly count as high as is possible. It is up to the developer what he wants to do with code based on resolution. If they are offering two resolutions, that typically means they are using that variable to adjust assets around it.

A 1080p frame can use around 16mb of memory for each draw based on pixels, a ...

It definitely could depending on how the game was written. Your shaders will get a huge relief.

Haha, even if I could afford one there is no way I would buy it. Cost of that car could feed entire villages in many countries for years.

Although I might use my money to talk them into letting me test drive it :D

I agree, even on PC I lower resolution until I reach a steady 60fps since that is most important to me. Give us the choice.

I think it is the opposite. Old games being remade with new engines is fun. Re-releasing new games that just came out is an obvious cash grab.

Oh well, Sony's loss is everyone's gain!

I have well over 100 hours into Forza 5, but I am still on the first play through : )

Insane how much is going on in Titanfall at one time. Wonder what the count of updates on each draw call is? Also curious of how much of the draw data is calculated in cloud vs client? I am guessing more than 50% are cloud calculated since all the AI for bots and auto Titans and sky rendering is done on the Cloud.

Also as to Forza I think there is some misunderstanding of the Drivatars. They are not ghost, they are living/changing ai that are built based on how you play. Deci...

So beautiful. Closest I will ever come to driving one :D

Post your findings! Unless it has an NDA haha.

In this particular case, all that would happen is you wouldn't see the pretty particle effects. The game would still play the same as it did though.

4444d ago 3 agree3 disagreeView comment

Not much, they are just offloading the computations. Basically sending the hit point to the server and then returning an array of the new positions. The computations of particle locations are what cost the CPU so much. Running constant math on 1000 vectors is cpu intensive but it is only a very small chunk of data "bits".

Pretty awesome stuff, wonder how much Titanfall is paying to spin up 100,000 VM's!

Much longer than I was anticipating. Cannot wait for this game.
