Consumers are stupid though so they'll keep shelling out for it and keep the business model alive with what I call the "Dumb Bucks." If no one bought stupid crap and stuck to their guns, yeah, we could avoid it. But group stupidity is truly humanity's greatest enemy. I mean hey, Farmville is like a multi-million dollar operation now. Yeah. Take a step back and look at what we've become.
An alternative is buying the many other JRPGs that deserve a purchase while ignoring sequels to games that did not deserve a purchase.
For example, buy Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 2, Yakuza 4, and Tales of Graces, and Disgaea 4 (when they come out), but ignore half-assed cash-ins on one of FF's least popular games.
The Vita doesn't have UMD support though. Downloads are waaaaaay bigger in NA than Japan.
To that end, the used game shops here have UMD games at budget prices lining the walls. I mean hey, you can go download Phantasy Star Portable 2 from the PSN Store for like $25 or pay $9 for it on UMD. Copy and paste similar proportions to a bunch of other games and I can understand the lure of the PSP.

The company has just sent out 2 press releases confirming King of Fighters and Devil Survivor so those are true.

Yeah the lack of news and updates will drag a game's anticipation level down like that. We haven't heard new news or seen new images/video on Versus 13 in a long time. They've really gotta stop announcing these games like 7 years before they're published. If I first began pursuing a medical career on the day FF Versus XIII was announced, I would be on my way to becoming a practicing physician before it hits shelves. Think about that.
