While I only bought the Xbox in 2007 (for 300$), I used up about 1 year of free Xbox live subscription thanks to promotions and free cards included with games ( a month here and a month there), and then I stocked up twice on the 1$ a month promotion so I'm all set till August 2014.
How much did it cost me in total? about 150$.
My console also RROD once on me, but thanks to the 3 years cover plan I got another one for free which is still working.

I have no idea what this article is trying to do... besides trolling. No new games? I beg to differ
The Xbox 360 is on its seventh year right now, and I have yet to see any console manufacturer in the past to give such a broad support game-wise for such an againg console in past generations.
Think about it: even the PS2 which was probably the king of games can't compete on that level. What new games Sony give to PS2 owners on it's seventh year? GOW2 a...
Except they ALSO discount the games.
I bought almost all of the games I own during weekly sales for 33% off or more. Couple that with the discounts promotions on point cards and with some xbox live rewards programs that give you refunds, and you can see that a 1600 card can cost you less than 15$ and actually give you over 40$ worth of content. Every little discount adds up.
That kid gets a one month free Xbox live gold when he opens a new account. This is where your whole fanboyish argument falls apart. Problem solved, no crying required.
He has about one month to try the game before forking his parents to shell out the extra money for a gold account, assuming that he enjoys the game.
It seems to me that people are willing to pay when the feel that the service is worth the money. As you said yourself, they have an alternative to buy the ...
@Fishy Fingers,
Reading comprehension issues much? How come you stick to the "struggle to install" argument and ignore the "cause so many conflicts" statement?
Most Skyrim mods create conflicts, bugs and crashes, so it's not worth the trouble in case of most of them. This is why I also deleted most of the mods I downloaded on the PC version (except for SkyUI).
The people playing on console don't miss much in that ...
Not only that, but it's also not even announced for 2012.
As funny as it is, I guess the person who made this image never played Bioshock, Far Cry 2, Halo ODST, Borderlands etc...
Halo already does that with optional skulls, you know: you can completely remove the crosshair, checkpoints, health regeneration and so much more like AI tweaks, half sized weapon clips, no motion sensor etc.
It also adds score multiplier bonuses when you do that to give another incentive for the hardcore players.
They still support WinXP 5 years after Vista was released, so the "always" statement is a bit excessive here...
Plus, killing a product thatg still generates money every year from subscription and other payed services is not the smartest idea. It's not like previous generation where the hardware was only used to play retail games.
Mmm, many comments to my opinion that Halo Reach remains the best FPS to play today, yet none of them were able to mention a better game FPS released on the console since Reach.
Please note that I didn't say it's the best overall game or the best experience, it's just the best FPS.
I mean, the only 3 games that can claim the crown in the multiplayer front are Battlefield, COD and Killzone - and neither of those can offer the same single player (and not to ...
I have to second that. Skyrim eclipes all, but if any other game can be considered GOTY competitors it's Batman and Deus Ex.
Portal was nice, and did made me laugh at some points, but it was still an overstretched puzzle game with pretty weak puzzles compared to the first game.
Over a year later Halo Reach remains the best FPS on consoles to date. Can't wait to see what Bungie plans for us next!
oh, I see you're trolling with that same list in every article. Why didn't you say so before?
Naa, console probably just RRODed on him ;)
Why no XBLA gna PSN games when most of these games top many retail exclusives? I mean even Crysis was released as an XBLA/PSN game this year and IMO it topped Crysis 2. Ms Spolsion Man is a way better platformer than the disappointing Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One so no point to include one but not the other.
Your comparison sounds even weirder to exclude these when you actually include games like ICO, SOTC and Halo which are basically last gen remakes available on other pla...
What "ruined" RE5 was last-gen development mentality. The gameplay mechanics just felt old regarless of co-op.
Yet it still managed to be a good game, better than your average RE game and better than many other games released in 2009.
@pr0digyZA
Actually on the PC, it's also mostly Microsoft OS PCs that get the great games. Mac and Linux usually have a smaller selection of games, so perhaps you can thank MS for creating comofotable tools for Windows development (or on the other hand, blame them for dividing the market by not making their tools universal :) )
Zelda score 7.5 in the Gamespot review. It seems they didn't superbly enjoy it when reviewing the games, so why include it now?
I think other notable omissions are Uncharted 3, Dead Space 2 and Forza 4. But than again, it's based on Gamespot reviews and maybe they liked these games less. Other than that it's a solid list, but it doesn't really matter in a year where an Elder Scrolls game is released...
I don't know man, considering the fact it's a 6 years old console I don't think I've seen any console getting so much support and so many games on it's sixth year in the market - not even the PS2 which probably has the strongest game catalog from past generations.
Check out metacritic ratings for the Xbox 360 in 2011. It's amazing: The first page is all in the green! That's 100 games/dlc with 76+ review score - probably the best Xbox 360 year ever ...
I thinks you're missing the point Bioshocking: While Skyrim is not a perfect game and it could obviously use more interesting combat mechanics (like in the Witcher) or better narrative (like in Bioware games), it is still head and shoulder above any other game released this year - be it RPG or anything else.
Skyrim is a single games triumphs in scale and ambitions what other developers attempt to do over the course of multiple games and franchises, with a world more belie...
