Sony said a few weeks ago that they're lowering the price on their Blu-ray player to $600...is that because sales are slow? Or is that strategic?
EDIT: How can you disagree with a simple question? It's a question!!! The fanboyism on this site is amazing!
The same could be said for Mp3's, but ITunes seems to be doing quite well.
Just kidding Robert. :)
As a die hard HD DVD supporter this article is tough to read, but I can't say that I argue with their points. At least it's pretty well written and doesn't seem too biased. I still think that if HD DVD can hold on long a little while longer (by that I mean 2 - 3 years), dual format players will be cheap enough that it won't matter anymore. It will be like DVD+/-R. But maybe not...
Well, I would definately like to try this. Since the only way my Xbox will upconvert is through VGA, I have to use that. Unfortunately, the colors are extremely washed out compared to the component cables. Maybe this will solve my problem.
I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Please don't take this as PS3 bashing, but when the system was released it was pretty much the only game worth getting. I would have guessed of the first 1 mil PS3's sold, 90% would have picked up Resistance. Sales of this game will probably slow down now that the PS3 games library is starting to pick up.
So, they won't make games until the userbase is high enough...but the userbase won't grow without good games. I can't say that I blame them, but it's a good thing all of the developers aren't doing this or there would be nothing to play!
They just said Casino Royale sold 100K copies on Blu-ray already...pretty impressive. Also, Children of Men on HD DVD is in the top 20 right now on Amazon, and Happy Feet (HD DVD is 26, Blu-ray 30), Casino Royale, Planet Earth (HD DVD) are all in the top 50.
People are starting to buy HD movies, but they tend trail off the sales charts quickly. Even Casino Royale is falling fast.
Despite owning the HD DVD add-on, I'm starting to think that both of these formats are going to die off...at least for movies. DVD was expensive at first too, but it offered many significant advantages over VHS including better picture and sound, not to mention space advantages. A collection of 500 DVDs is easier to fit in a cabinet than 500 VHS.
I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but my Xbox does a nice enough job upconverting that my wife can't tell the difference between...
This is really a wonderful idea. I hope everyone with a PS3 signs up...and maybe they could bring this to the 360 as well.
I'm just curious...does no one think that the Wii is a major player here? Everyone is spouting off sales numbers, but the Wii is destroying both the 360 and PS3 right now. If all of these people are buying Wii's, why isn't there more news and comments about it? Does everyone think it's just a fad that will pass?
Wow, you need to calm down. It's ok...it's just a video game system. The 360 didn't kill your pet or anything. This type of angry, one sided, illogical, ranting response is the reason you only have one bubble. (No, I didn't report you)
Also, periods are your friends. Use them to group words into sentences. Take Tylenol for any headaches...Mydol for any cramps.
Come on now...the 360 has plenty to offer...just like the PS3. No need for comments like this. If you want to, pick on the Microsoft guy that said this stuff, or make fun of their boat party...but using any opportunity to bash the other system is just blind fanboyism.
Maybe you're exactly right...it might just be a thank you to loyal Sony fans. If so, kudos to them. At the same time there is nothing wrong with promotions like this, why not advertise it? We all know that they are in business to make money, not to just be nice to customers.
I personally don't trust any company, especially Sony and Microsoft. They have both been guilty of some childish comments and promotions over the last few years.
Instead of hurling pathetic attempts at insults, why don't you say something useful? Tell me why MotoStorm has so few tracks even with the massive extra storage of Blu-ray. Here's a hint, it's not because they ran out of room...it's because they ran out of time and resources. I would bet that the same is true for Gears of War. If you disagree with me, why don't you provide a nice argument in a civilized manner instead of comments like "Let me clear it up little bit more for your brig...
Agreed...why would you not advertise that better? I would think it would give you a much better turnout.
It seems to me that the differences can be summed up quite easily:
1. Graphics are roughly the same.
2. Price is roughly the same if you get the add-ons to make the 360 have all the functionality of the PS3...if not, the 360 is cheaper.
3. 360's online is better, but PSN is still good and free.
4. 360 has more games right now, but PS3 will no doubt have a great library soon as well.
Seems to me it's basically a draw...just buy the one that ha...
Did they run out of room on the Blu-ray disk for MotoStorm? Is that why there are so few tracks? Of course not...it's just the way the games were designed.
Do you have an article from Epic stating that the reason for the "short" gameplay of Gears what due to DVD limitiations? If you have proof, please let me know...I would love to see that.
You tell people not to judge something you haven't used yet...but you seem to be judging the 360's choice of DV...
Yup, my name is referring to Virginia Tech...proud Computer Science grad of 2002!
I absolutely agree with you. I despise DRM in all it's forms. It's the main reason I went with HD DVD instead of Blu-ray...less copy protection. Unfortunately, as I posted below, my 360 won't upscale my DVD's over component (damn DRM again) and the colors look awful over VGA. So, if I want a good looking picture, HDMI is my only option.
I guess I should be angry at the movie studios for enforcing DRM instead of Microsoft...I'm sure they would upscale over component if they ...
I don't understand...why would the HD DVD add-on become a paperweight but not the PS3? Can you explain why you say that?
