That's the best thing Sony did with the PS3 imo.
Having the ability to add any HDD to the system.
Kudos for Sony.
However saying that, take notice of how many people are now praising this maybe PS3 with 16g if it's not a rumor...when they bashed the Xbox360 for having the same sort of setup:

Smaller SPACE, CHEAPER MODEL.
It's hypocrisy.

Very interesting if this is true.
How many people BASHED MS for bringing out the Xbox360 console with smaller memory Space?
Now running through the comments in this thread, the smaller memory space PS3 is all of a sudden a fantastic idea.

On my trip to work down town on the subway 5 DAYS A WEEK...ALL you see are smart-phones and tablets playing quick style games or surfing the web or watching movies etc. I almost NEVER see 17+ year olds on those trains using a PSP or Viat or 3DS for any of those things as compared to just under 5 years ago when that's all you saw when it came to mobile video consumption.
Just take a look at the recent data. It backs up what I am saying fully.

"Sony the One and Only"
Use to be their motto. It held true during the 70's and 80's...then the recession hit in the 90's and even Sony started to outsource their products...that was the beginning of the end for the Sony quality we once were use to during the 70's and 80's glory years of Sony.
During that period, if you wanted the best in Electronics, Sony was it. Bar none. Times have changed....

The market has changed. Dedicated handhelds will not sell as well as they did in the past with Tablets and Smart Phones eating up the casual gaming market share.
If you look at the demographics for who buys handheld now compared to 5 years ago...it has drastically changed.

You RARELY see the age demographics of 17+ with dedicated handheld gaming devices in public compared to just 5 years ago. That age demographics based on recent data are opting to buy Tablets and o...

3D gaming never took off this generation because of the initial cost set-up.
It was just too pricey for the average consumer to swallow.
Then you have the low quality for 3D gaming on most console games.
Only a few console games looked good running 3D, and even then it was low resolution and sub-HD with frame rates below 30fps at times.
If you wanted full HD 3D gaming you had to opt for Nvidia's PC setup. Most gamers did not have this set-up anyway.

These are two different devices altogether regards to gaming. HOWEVER, the average consumer does not see it that way.
They see two entertainment systems for about the same money...one with a larger screen, larger ecosystem and cheaper apps and games. The games are NO where near the quality of Vita games but the average consumer in most cases does not care.
The majority of people buying mobile systems for gaming and other forms of 'quick' entertainment are average con...

Cryngine on the PC uses all real time effects.
Uncharted and most other Console games do not. They are almost all pre calculated and 'pre baked'

The Cryengine is capable and uses:

All high resolution textures.
Larger environments then Uncharted and most PS3 exclusive games as well as Xbox360 games.

Real Time Global Illumination.

Real Time subsurface scattering.

Real Time Eye adaptatio...

PS1 and PS2 had almost the same type of design flaws. The PS1 had it because the early systems CD trays were made of plastic and were too close to the systems processors. The heat would warp the plastic tray and CD's would fail to read.
DRE for the PS2 was widely known and the result was a class action lawsuit that Sony paid out 4 years after.
Reliability for those consoles were average.

You would pay $600 for the PS4, however the majority of consumers will not.

PC games and PC gaming is actually cheaper than console games and gaming in the short run.
Games on consoles coats anywhere from $5-$20 more for the same exact title.
Moreover that same game on the PC runs smoother, looks better and has in may cases community mods for said game all free.
If you add up all the games you have bought on your console that are also on the PC, that alone cost you more $$$ depending on how many games you buy a year.
Obviously Straigh...

Almost every single pc multi platform games plays and looks better then it's console counterpart.
Considering the majority of games released in a calendar year are multi platform games out numbering exclusive games for each console at least 3-1, there are plenty of games on the pc.
I for one like playing my games at above 1080p @60 fps. Something none of these consoles can do.

Yet the PS1 and PS2 HAD DESIGN FLAWS AND ISSUES from overheating and warping the plastic CD tray that lead to DRE(PS1) To PS2's DRE that lead to a class action lawsuit. So your point of Japanese not buying consoles that do not break is actually false.

@Kingboy

"Wrong as far as they keep making the best consoles money can buy, they're pretty untouchable in that regard and for ever will be the headquarters to gaming"

MS will continue to pump money into Japan...and get little in return.
Japanese will NEVER embrace a American console.
The saving grace for MS with this is the fact that Japan is no longer the mecca of the video game world. North America is.

He was promoted. Hopefully he can turn things around as Sony has been in financial restructure more than 4 times since the 1990's and still are in that position.
I have confidence in Sony to come out of this
