Or you could look at this from a completely different glass half full perspective of, they need to test the network they could either let everyone on at same time maybe it crashes and no one gets to enjoy it, with the team being split up to try to get both systems working right. Let PS4 on first with is (as is brought up over and over again) >2x larger player base crash the servers and they don't get to enjoy it as long and also just made a negative first impression to 2x the potential...
That had nothing to do with stoking the console war fires. It had to do with people saying MS wouldn't make another console. So he put that speculation to rest.
Not to mention who would have actually thought they they wouldn't be developing their next console. As Phil said himself it's not like they fired the hardware team when the Xbox one X came out so what did people think they were doing.

So honest question if you were selling a $60 product that you knew everyone could play for $10 with game pass (or free if they didn't use the trial yet), How many copies would expect to actually SELL through?

So everyone complaining that MS needs to let the studios have creative freedom... then gets upset with MS when the studio doesnt deliver... Yeah that makes sense.
I hate SoT I blame Rare, they said its the game they want to make. They failed me not MS.
Exactly I would hope EVERY studio says this, unless they are trying to go for something different like I want to be the best studio to make platformers. But all in all every studio should be trying to be the best.
This also benefits EVERYONE. Developers and artists move around. Its good for a studio to have great teams train people how to make great games and watch them take that talent and experience to other studios to make them better as well.

Im pretty sure that is the actual point. Its a beta test, why would you test with a LARGER group before testing to see what happens with a smaller group first.
