...and you're not?

The most biased and dogmatic members of the gaming community are usually the first ones to (erroneously) point the finger.

Fair enough. Ultimately what I'm trying to say, however, is that there will surely be quite a few people who fall into the 'meh', 'disliked but didn't hate', or 'liked but didn't love' category. I don't think it will be as polarizing as many of us are letting on.

For one thing, there's nothing innovative or different about the game; everything it features has been done before and, from the sound of things, done better.

The point of not wanting the game to sell has to do with the overarching message it sends to the entire community - that mediocrity should be rewarded. That does indeed impact the individual, as if this sort of thing became the norm, then sooner or later the market would be flooded with anemic, lifeless titles and...

Even though I'm not looking forward to this game, I have to point out that this is a very weak argument. There was also a time when most people thought the world was flat. Spoiler: they were wrong.

They really aren't, though. The writing has been on the wall for months; I think it's safe to say that we all should have seen such a broad spectrum of reviews coming.

Even so, the content of the reviews is nothing crazy and nothing we haven't heard before. We've all seen games that are universally loved, universally panned, divisive, and those that are outright forgettable. What's crazy (although still unfortunately common) is the extreme reactions from...

Well, it doesn't sound like you love it yourself.

This game is getting the full spectrum of criticism, from love, hate, and everything in between. It's only sharply divisive among the loudest fanatics in the community.

Not a very well thought out strawman argument.

Your comparisons are too reductive and oversimplified.

NBA Live and NBA 2K are also basketball games. Guess they should've received the same level of acclaim too, right?

It isn't a fallacy when you consider the context of those articles.

They all amounted to praise and worship that wasn't unlike that of a sycophant or religious zealot, and when they weren't praising the game beyond belief, it was either slander, damage control, or defensiveness.

I'd say this critique is right on the money; Dualshockers needs to be shut down.

LOL, you're a tad off base.

Try again, but read more than just the title and blurb next time.

3995d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

You're missing the point, smart one.

He's pointing out the overt and obvious slant Dualshockers had towards this game. 30 articles of nothing but gushing and/or damage control says a lot; the editor at Dualshockers decided a long time ago how he was gonna review the game. That's not integrity.

3995d ago 8 agree2 disagreeView comment

This guy is right, unfortunately. Dualshockers has to be one of the worst gaming sites out there; Abraiel is about the most biased hack writing on games today. I used to think Major Nelson was bad, but he's got nothing on these knuckleheads.

First of all, I mentioned a wide range of options for helping one determine a purchase. I'd lump streaming into the same category of purchases, but in the end, what I'm saying is that it's best to exhaust all possible resources when someone is on the fence.

Otherwise, you're missing the point. OF COURSE your opinion is the only that matters, but do you have the time and the money to waste on every pretty new big budget game that comes out? If you do, then t...

That's the cycle of fanboy angst. Point fingers, red herrings, shift the blame, construct straw man arguments; basically anything at all to distract from the shortcomings of the object of their worship.

If reviews are of no value to you, then why do you read them, pay attention to the scores, and comment on the articles?

At the end of the day, reviews are there to give insight to gamers. There's a lot of shady journalism around, but in general, it's the best thing we've got short of shelling out $60 on an unknown experience.

Not everybody has the money and time to waste sifting through dozens of mediocre games in the quest to find the ONE that i...

I'm more interested in how the fanboys are gonna take it.

They'll probably react like Man of Steel fanatics, claiming that the game is the best thing ever, and anyone who doesn't agree is either a hater, troll, or was too stupid to understand the sophistication and artistic value of the game.

People will tell themselves anything to feel comfortable in their own skin.

3998d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

What the article seeks to point out is that it's the fanboys who need meds, or a life (maybe both?).

It highlights the absurd, cult-like devotion some people have for this game when they haven't even played it, as their hypocrisy for deeming praise A-OK while condemning anything negative or critical is contradictory.

3998d ago 2 agree5 disagreeView comment

It's not a very difficult (or clever, for that matter) trick - simply find a low res (and therefore muddy) image to compare.

I'm not even looking forward to this game, and even I'll call BS on that "comparison".

This game looks set to be about as divisive as Prometheus.
