You do realize Nintendo owns Monolith right? Which makes them a first party developer?
Also Nintendo has done a ton of new IPs this gen, can't forget the Wii X brand (whatever people may think of them), Disaster Day of Crisis, Captain Rainbow, Elite Beat Agents, Rhythm Heavens, Fluidity, and of course Xenoblade and The Last Story recently.
Also had FlingSmash out last year.
Really, a console not selling well its 4th year on the market is news? I mean outside of the 360 and I guess Ps3 to an extent (even though it tied its previous years) most consoles do decline in sales over time.
Especially when you start off like a ball of fire like the Wii did.
I see Rampaged!
And the game looks pretty stellar.
And we get Macho Man!
Oh YEAH!
Its not on the same console!
If we can agree that the Ps3 is a stronger console than the 360, would it not be reasonable to assume that being an awesome looking 360 game doesn't make you the best looking Ps3 game?
And again, different reviews, and a lot could change in a year. And people need to stop being so hung up on a friggin number.
1) GT 5 released several days before Epic Mickey, which is why Epic Mickey didn't count in Nov's NPDs.
2) 5.5 is a worldwide figure.
3) Since you want to be snotty, Epic Mickey sold more in one month than GT 5 has sold since release in the States/Canada.
Wait, let me catch my breath here. I am shocked... SHOCKED that Activision is making a sequel to one of their games.
That never happens.
I think people need to stop looking at the progress of the video game industry as a straight line and more like an expanding circle.
Just because it doesn't push a certain segment of gaming forward doesn't mean it isn't pushing another. Granted, I have not played this game, but it must be doing something right for it to garner such support.
Should be noted that this doesn't include Dec, so its 11 months out of the year.
Sales, at least to me, aren't all about X game sold better than Y game. I like knowing the numbers, seeing what type of games sell and which don't, what factors could lead to that. What is moving the industry and what games are buying into.
Most places that discuss sales go beyond, LOL this game sold this much it must suck, into deeper conversations about what went wrong/right, how other companies can learn from it or how companies need to think of a different strateg...
I am really curious for NPDs next week, I mean the game is under 600k in Japan, being generous and saying it double its sales in the States from Nov to Dec which I still doubt means it would have sold what 1.5 million or so in the States, which means Europe has bought... 3.4 million copies of the game on its own?
Roughly.
I don't think there's any doubt they got them beat in the States?
Awesome sounds like it will be an awesome Party!
So what you are saying is.. you'd buy a Mario game with improved graphics instead of them trying something different with "gimmicks"
I always dislike the Nintendo needs to grow up mantra. Almost EVERYONE else in the industry is already making games for that sector, why should they join an already crowded rat race? As long as they continue to make fun and engaging games, I don't care if it stars the gang of Sesame Street.
I think "mature" adults don't care about what the message is dressed on.
That's like saying Toy Story 3 shouldn't be people's favorite movie from 2010 or something.
Only people who are concerned with image care about something being "mature"
Pretty short list especially since there's no confirmation of The Last Story or Xenoblade outside of Japan.
Either way, its weird that every year Nintendo seems to be the underdog in a race that they not only one, but have lapped the competitors.
I mean MS and Sony have both done drastic price drop, multiple SKUs and even remodeled their console, and they have yet to really make up any lost ground.
And somehow, this is Nintendo's year to make a come back doesn't make sense.
The basis of this article is that Nintendo managed to survive the launch of the Kinect and Move, and somehow they are the ones in a terrible position?
And as the article itself points out, they haven't dropped the price of the console in over a year, they have a lot of moves they can make.
Some of them are just easier to deal with like the elevator, though some games offer you the option to use buttons and the likes.
This reads less like why Call of Duty should be exclusive, and more like an article that has an issue with the Call of Duty games as a whole.
Then do you not consider Metroid games first party?
Retro isn't Nintendo Nintendo and we know for sure Team Ninja isn't Nintendo, but most would say those were Nintendo games.
I don't see how Nintendo owning majority share in Monolith doesn't make em first party.
