It makes them second-party games.
"Just because Nintendo doesn’t own the devs" - the literal definition of a first-party game is that it is a game developed by a studio that it owned by a company that produces video game consoles. Please educate yourself.
Link's Awakening and Yoshi's Crafted World are not first-party games. Is it too much to expect Gamespot to know who actually develops a game?
Let me guess, the only people you approve of being political on their personal twitter feed are those that you agree with.
Nintendo delayed BOTW from 2015 to 2017 in order to sell the Switch (and put out 0 first-party games in 2016). God help us if other companies took Nintendo's stance of screwing over existing customers in order to sell the next console.
You'll be able to play The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Dreams - all 2020 games - at launch on PS5.
Why is everyone upset? Are there still gamers that actually still take Edge reviews seriously? The writer at TwistedVoxel seems to have a bias as well. Edge reviews most games so why make a point of listing 3 of the latest Nintendo releases and linking them in the final sentence? Maybe it is some clever way to avoid talking about Nintendo's Daemon X Machina getting a 5 since that isn't mentioned once yet other 2019 Nintendo games are brought up.
@Imalwaysright
Yeah, who wants an assassin game where the focus in on assassinating, right? Gamers deserve a great assassinating game where the map is littered with pointless collectibles, you have the ability to change outfits (cosmetically only), there's a town-building minigame, and you need to loot corpses for money. Throw in the ability to hunt wild animals, skin them, and sew a new bag and you have the perfect assassin game!
Ubisoft once made ...
Yet none of what you predicted has come true with movies even though that industry is unionized. Nice work Nostradamus!
Joy-Con drift baabbyy!!! You can't find that on PS4 or XBox One - making the Switch that much better of a console!
Seriously, buy what you like and quite making these ridiculous fanboy lists. "The Switch is cheaper" - not really and especially not if you plan to buy any games for it (or pay for the accessories that come standard with PS4 and XB1). "Switch getting more third-party support" except for almost every third-party game released in 2019....
I'm not dismissing either Cyberpunk 2077 or Dying Light 2. I have them both preordered and look forward to playing them Day 1. But my anticipation for them has not made me unable to look at the lineups objectively. Dying Light was good and it was also filled with bugs, glitched trophies, and the overall feel of the game's story was copied from Far Cry 3 - right down to the quick-time fight for the main villain. It also took some big steps back from Dead Island, especially in the m...
2007 might be more memorable than 1998.
Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Crysis, God of War 2, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Metroid Prime 3, Portal, Super Mario Galaxy, The Witcher, Uncharted.
2007 definitely was the year that has defined gaming for over a decade now and shows no signs of stopping. We most likely wouldn't be getting Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us 2 if The Witcher and Uncharted had failed.
@CP_Company
Throwing out a bunch of games without release dates doesn't help your argument. If this generation has taught us one thing, it is that games are almost always delayed.
The Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 = The Last of Us and GTA 5. 2020 has Watch Dogs 3; 2013 had AC4: Black Flag and Far Cry: Blood Dragon. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is balanced out by 2013's Guacamelee. 2020 has Final Fantasy 7 Remake; 2013 had Tomb Raider and Bi...
@TheOptimist
Oh, so you just want to limit it to the first 4 months. Ok. From January to April 2013 some of the bigger retail games released were -
DmC: Devil May Cry
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Dead Space 3
Crysis 3
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Tomb Raider
God of War: Ascension
Gears of War: Judgment
BioShock Infinite
Injustice: Gods Among Us
...
That is a pretty sad list compared to 2013 with its games including Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Injustice, Rayman Legends, Metro: Last Light, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and GTA 5 - not to mention the 12 retail exclusives on the PS3.
Nope. Clearly this writer has no idea what Borderlands is about. He should stick to the dumpster fire that is Destiny where you spend hours going through steps and/or collecting parts for a single gun. Or maybe play The Division 2, where the developers are currently listening to all the whiny players and are stripping out everything good about the game. Soon it will be just as "great" as The Division 1, where the end game loot people chased after was div. tech and phoenix credits...
If my time playing The Last of Us has taught me anything, it is that Ellie will die a lot during my playthrough and at the end of the game Naughty Dog will tell me exactly how many times I failed.
KATAGAWA!!!
Even the game says their guns are bad and that is why they needed to take over Atlas. I personally don't have a problem with the charge times since I got used to using fusion rifles in Destiny.
@bluefox755
The launch was bad but also let us not forget about the horrible Super Slim PS3 design. From January 2013 until now, the PS3 only sold another 10 million units - a really bad end-of-life sales for a Sony console, especially considering it contains the year that The Last of Us and GTA V released. Few liked the Super Slim PS3 design and it seems to have hurt sales.
You really need someone to explain to you the difference between a home console and a handheld? I thought everyone figured that out during the NES and Game Boy days. You do know that those 2 are different, don't you? Did you consider the Sega Nomad and PSP Go to be home consoles because they could be played on the TV?
The Switch has always been a handheld console that connects to a TV. Every time someone points something that the Switch does worse than the XB1 and P...
That would of been clever if the Switch Lite didn't just release. Now it is just sad trying to pretend that the Switch is in the home console market like the XB1 and PS4.
Are you really that desperate that you need to change the definition of what a first-party game is. A Nintendo studio didn't develop Link's Awakening or Yoshi's Crafted World. Get over it. Nintendo paid someone else to make the games. Same thing with Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem, and Astral Chain.
