What can you expect they went to Xbox360 without an Xbox180. My guess is since a 360 is a circle, two circles together make a something that looks like an 8 or an infinity sign?

Nintendo- Trying to skip out on tradition and reveal of new games and possibly 3DS miiverse.
Sony- giving us a look of their amazing new console and showing their games.
Microsoft- New console, new games,and an end to all the rumors!!!

Thing is nintendo will be at E3, The official E3 twitter even says so, they just won't be having a traditional conference. Just because they want to do something different, instead of juggling talking to investers, fans, and the public, doesn't mean they admit defeat.
Non wiiu owners can only see a small 'demo' type miiverse in the homepage, so they can have a taste of it.

How is it a fail, they could just as easily announce as many games in a 1 hour direct as in E3 and they.never said they werent going to show up, they just wont have a conference
but, this game would fit perfectly for a handheld.
