He was talking in terms of the xbox one beating the PS4 in sales. I was defining the xbox as an appealing platform someone may consider. I'm not saying everyone is going to buy one and it will out sell PS4. I'm saying it's momentum as a desirable platform is building.
Your definition of momentum is sales. As a console the xbox one is building momentum as a viable option compared to the PS4 or as a worthwhile second console for PS4 owners who like the look of this years xbox exclusives and next years. If anything xbox one is starting to resemble the original xbox's approach.

We're talking about a market where Nintendo and Sony have dominated for decades and the idea of having an xbox, no matter how good it could be, would seem alien to Japanese gamers.
Such a catch 22. They have to support the Japanese market to get the games on xbox and in other territories but the Japanese will never buy xbox. 360 was the closet they got to breaking through and that still wasn't enough.

I would say xbox did have a chance of having global appeal...if they'd made the right decisions and had the right focus starting from a clear reveal of the console. That didn't happen.
