Sony doesnt have to buy a studio. They can make business agreement with advantages on both sides. If PS5 will sell half as good as PS4, Sony can do extra promoting, special packages, etc... So games from some studio can sell very well in exchange of (console) exclusivity. Its always about outcome for both companies. Even MS and ZeniMax transaction is about future outcome. As in case of xbox also in case of crossgen ps games I think games will be held back.
But if there are two teams, which develops game according to scenario separately without sharing of game design and code, I believe ps5 crossgen games will not be held back. But thats not the case :-).
Maybe times of big gen leaps are really over. There will be only small steps across so called generations. Like you change gpu or cpu in PC.
It has a lot to do with game development price. There were lot of games on different consoles/computers earlier. Also all these devices had very different capabilities. Now, xbox,ps and pcs have x86 cpu, amd gpus, xbox uses direct x.....its much easier to develop for consoles and to make ports. But in the end you dont have to make ports at all. They are so similar! This is really huge. Now its first time I think MS can aquire enough subscribers so gamepass can be maybe sometime in distant future profitable. If that happens, theres no way back.

That would be brutal :-). But technologically it would be possible. Sony had some patent with something like multigpu and amd also give some indices, that they can multiply gpu power. It can be some technology like ryzens have. It looks like very ugly idea here. But maybe, maybe, maybe Sony will sell some sort of gpu enhancer instead of pro version. Maybe not :-)

1)people are happy, that their old crap boxes have new game
2)design of the game is always made with slowest box in mind

I agree. I dont get this too. Its nice for ps4 players. I understand miles morales - ok its also something like dlc for spidey. But horizon? If they made them separately and if crossgen is only for games in 2020, I am absolutely ok with that. Maybe a little let Down but nothing terrible.

Its obvious, digital way is more expensive. Still I have much more games bought digitally then on physical media and Im absolutely ok with that. Maybe after 20 years, when I find my console in attic and want to play some games I realize, that I cant. But that really doesnt bother me. And it isnt Sony who teached me that.
