Doom 3 and Dead Space were, to me, more tense than scary. There were things in the dark, and I had to locate, identify, and destroy those things before they jumped out and took a huge chunk of my health off. The Resident Evil series has always been more campy than scary to me but that's just me. FEAR and Silent Hill though, were pretty creepy, the latter more than the former.

I don't think I've ever felt more conflicted about a game. On the one hand, there are some truly great moments in TEW which, imo, take it beyond RE4 in terms of quality. Then there are others which just drag and drag during which I feel like slamming my head against a wall over and over would be a more productive use of my time.

In the end, I think this is going to be one of those games where you'll just need to take a look at some gameplay footage and decide for ...

I hope Zoe Quinn and the numbskulls at Kotaku are fucking happy with themselves.

And oh my God when will thick, self-righteous "journalists" realise that this whole GamerGate fiasco was NEVER about fucking feminism in gaming. It's about corruption - and more importantly, PROVEN corruption - in video games journalism (which I thought everyone knew was a joke even before the bullshit started to accrue) and despite the fact that GamerGate has donated a substantial ...

This as well. Vector Thrust looks like it's shaping up well and if what you're saying about the devs getting a publisher is true then I think those of us who've been longing for the PS2 trilogy to make its way to the PC will be in for a real treat once it reaches the later stages of its development.

I don't think Assault Horizon deserves most of the crap it gets from Ace Combat purists. Yes DFM made dogfighting a minigame and while some of the more scripted sequences (such as taking you through the dense cityscape of Dubai) were pretty jaw-dropping the first time, once you'd seen it, well you'd seen it. The helicopter side-gunner missions were also pretty cookie cutter and the AC-130 mission removed the excitement that Modern Warfare 1's such a phenomenal set piece by plo...

If a tag-team of Kojima and Del Toro - the latter of whom has a pretty impressive history with horror - can't save Silent Hill as a franchise, then no one can.

@xNomaD: Nether? Unfinished? Are we playing the same game here? I've been playing it a few weeks now and it looks and plays perfectly fine for me. UI is pretty ugly but otherwise I'd say it's about there.

"I thought reviews were meant to give an accurate gauge of quality."

Mate, in the end, reviews are merely opinions. More informed opinions mind (or they should be, but I doubt it's any great secret that gaming 'journalism' is a joke at best), but in the end they're carried out by people like you or I, with their own particular set of likes and dislikes.

In other news, Phil Fish is still a batshit insane asshole. Next topic please, this hack's as relevant as the Black Plague.

I think Microsoft had a pretty strong showing this year. The fact that they're now selling the One without the Kinect make it the same price as the PS4 now, and a lot more appealing. Plus some of the stuff they showed actually seemed rather cool. I liked the stuff Sony showcased too but imo there wasn't enough gameplay shown. Nintendo on the other hand, surprised me with all their first-party announcements.

I don't usually pay much attention to E3, but I think thi...

I wasn't aware there was any controversy over Far Cry 4 except the dumb box art shit dumped on it by people crying "pink suit: clearly gay."

The entire argument's a fucking joke and I don't think I have anything but disdain for anyone trying to push it forward.

I'm still sad Possession was canned. Even more sad that the devs (Volatile Games) who would have made it became defunct as of last year.

This.

There are some pretty irritating quirks with Eastern games, but equally some pretty shitty things about Western games. As with most things it's a case of trying to dig through the muck to find the real gems. Anyone trying to argue West>East or vice versa is making a fool's argument.

Resident Evil as a series is kaput imo. 6 sold like arse (with good reason) and Capcom have increasingly shown since 2008 that they don't appear to give much of a shit about the fanbase. The only things worthy of note they've done recently are putting both Revelations onto the PC and fixing/improving the RE4 PC version. If they want anyone anywhere to be in even the slightest anticipation for a possible RE7 they have some serious work ahead of them to win back the trust they've sq...

The Illuminati?

Well, I guess it's not like the series could really get much sillier.

I'm cautiously optimistic. On the one hand the parkour element we've seen so far seems pretty smooth and all in all it looks like it's got a considerable amount of polish more than Dead Island did, which is already encouraging.

On the other... well I'm sure I'm not the only one who was burned by Dead Island.

I'm sorry but why the hell am I seeing people say they'd actually like a return to terrible fixed camera angles and clunky tank controls?

For me the ideal Resident Evil game would play like 4 only with more emphasis on survival (less ammo/less effective ammo), more enclosed, claustrophobic spaces and less run'n'gun, something like Lost in Nightmares for RE5.

Oh and less, or ideally no QTEs would be much appreciated.

Come on, not even Capcom can possibly be that stupid.

The same can be said for a discouragingly high number of protagonists in pretty much every medium of fiction, though video games seem to have it worse imo.
