I for one certainly wouldn't mind seeing another game in Dunwall
I couldn't read this without constantly thinking of the recent Scream Fortress 2012 update for Team Fortress 2.
I know you're only using it as an example but Dark Sector played absolutely nothing like Devil May Cry... at all.
Whoa whoa whoa, someone actually PLAYED this?
I remember a few years back when everyone used to HATE this program with a passion. Now it's something no self-respecting PC Gamer should be without. Just curious though; I thought Steam had surmounted 6 million users yonks ago.
Hell yeah. Mirror's Edge was a pretty exhilarating run (pun intended) but at times some of the segments were hit-or-fall-to-your-death. If they can either touch up or remove the mediocre shooting mechanics and do something about the 'trial and error' vibe some parts of the game had, then I can see no reason why DICE won't have a winner on their hands.
I disagree.
NT made a pretty huge mistake with the character of Dante here (not that I particularly liked the original Capcom rendition either). They could have humanized and really done something with the character, but instead of smug and smarmy he now acts like an utter pillock with enough 'baditude' to fuel an entire legion of Britain's finest white trash. I like the physical design of Dante, but as they say, looks will only get you so far. What I will agree w...
I don't think I can come up with an even half-presentable counter-argument. So I guess I'll just say hats off to you, and let's all just agree that DmC is not going to be a very good game.
The fact that God of War is the only hack-n-slasher outselling the franchise is immaterial because practically everything else has outsold the Devil May Cry franchise by a good margin. Fact of the matter is that Devil May Cry 4 didn't rake in nearly as much as Capcom needed to turn a decent profit. The fan and critical reaction to 4 only made things worse and from the way people were reacting to RE5 a year later they must have judged that keeping things the same would only have resulted i...
I've never once cried because of a video game...
Until recently I could comfortably state that with a straight face.
Fuck the modern warbattles shooters, fuck the strategy titles, the puzzlers, the platformers and everything else; GOTY2012 goes to Telltale's TWD.
Narrative: Naturally it's too early at this point to tell whether or not the story will be a winner or a sinker. Ninja Theory proved themselves a master of character driven story with Heavenly Sword and Enslaved so I'm crossing my fingers that at least will be worth paying attention to. Writing on the other hand so far is... disappointing to say the least... come the fuck on Ninja Theory, what happened to the team that crafted characters like Nariko, Monkey and Trip? Clearly they'...
If you think by this point that I'm about to defend Ninja Theory's DmC and hail it as the next best thing since sliced bread then boy are you in for a shock. Before I talk shitty-ness though, let's get what little I like out of the way:
I like Dante's new look. It looks grounded, Dante looks like someone you'd see walking through the street on a regular day instead of his awful albino anime pretty-boy alter-ego in Capcom's previous efforts. I didn'...
Ugh. I have to squeeze my eyes shut and tell my treacherous hand to stay the hell away from links to articles on this game because all that happens is a near endless back-and-forth of purist fans who feel betrayed and other people who either genuinely wanted a different direction or who haven't so much as touched a Devil May Cry game in their life.
Fuck it. Essay time.
I'm going to take a MASSIVE leap away from the nostalgia crowd and come out and say...
Played Halo 4 and while it's a breath of fresh air from the wave of Modern Warbattles shooters I don't think it deserves GOTY. I think it'll be FC3 for me.
Unfortunately true. Don't understand how people can think crap like the Big Bang Theory is even remotely funny while blowing off a show like Scrubs after only watching a 5 minute segment of Season 9. Granted it didn't leave the best impressions but it's hardly a reason to condemn the rest of the series :/
Black Ops 2 hands down.
Despite the basic gameplay making no real advances in terms of innovation, Treyarch actually tried to do something different with the franchise. Warfighter was about as generic as you can possibly get and couldn't even do that right.
*Insert statement expressing strong disagreement with the article here*
As tiresome as these lists are, it's still a crying shame to see some of these potentially great games will never see the light of day.
Also where's Possession on these lists?
I never really understood all the fuss about this franchise. I've said it before but imo there's not really much this series has done that other FPS' haven't done better (save for the way vehicle and infantry combat flows and controls, which other FPS' including vehicle segments should really take more note of). The story in particular was lacking in the original Bungie series. It was intriguing in CE but nothing particularly stand-out, and the games that followed it only ...
Well at least they're honest about it unlike a certain unprofessional writer-director/professional dick bag who 'faithfully' adapted one much-adored Capcom franchise.
