Could be they're clearing the deck for Valhalla 360s.
The XBOX roadmap has Valhalla (the combo CPU/GPU chip) listed for 2010.

Its not that odd; Arcades have gone for as low as $149 in the US, after factoring gift cards from Walmart or Amazon.

Plus, they *are* due for a price cut.

The 27 million is as of June 30 2009.
The 9 Million is for the full calendar year.
So the numbers add up just fine.
Obviously they're factoring in the PS3slim and the $299 Elite.

...Not DLC.
It is a standalone game on DVD that happens to run on the Halo3 engine and allows for online play with the existing Halo3 community.

Shame, shame, shame!

Microsoft must now fire Ballmer for only bring in $15 billion in profit for the year.
How can he look himself in the mirror?!
He didn't even bring in as much as Sony ($17B market value) is worth!

The shame!

Of course, Win7 ships in october, Sharepoint is going gangbusters, and Office 2010 and online are due for the spring so Ballmer will likely be doing the monkey dance again by next summer.

But hey...

For those too lazy to check the links:
MS market value US$143.58 billion
Apple market value US$79.54 billion
Sony market Value US$17.12 billion

And Apple currently has US$30 billion in cash in the bank, Sony has $1 billion and is losing about $1 billion per year.

Realistically, Apple would be stupid to buy Sony, but if they wanted to, they could.

Bottom line:
MS = 2x Apple
Apple = 5x Sony

Give it an...

1- They could be an instant number 3 just by buying Sony. And yes, yes, they can afford it; they have more than that as cash sitting around.

2- They could just roll their own using an AppleTV painted black with a single button jostick--for simplicity--and instantly get a full 3% market share and be hailed as industry leaders by the media and their fanboys. Which are one and the same, come to think of it.

3- As for beating Microsoft, well, considering how great th...

Certainly the Sony community can be proud of actively boosting Infamous and depressing Prototype. Its an interesting experiment, that's for sure...
Wouldn't expect the Activision CEO to be happy with the sales split, though.

(Look it up!)

Actually, the Natal AI has read Croals columns and recognized him as a PS3 fanboy so it kicked in the "go wave your glo-stick elsewhere" subroutine. ;-)

Jeeze!
The Iowa gay-marriage thing should be the giveaway even if you're clueless enough to buy the rest of the gag. (just look at the other links on the page to see the site is a humor site.)

The 1-to-1 thing is, of course a flag to draw in the fanboys and the waggle controls comment red meat to distract. Nicely played; they knew exactly which buttons to push.

In other words: they punk'ed 'em good.

..But howzabout Activision cuts some of *their* prices to goose sales?

Sony just admitted they're still losing $40 per console and Activision wants them to lose even more so *they* can make more money?
Like that's going to happen.

As to the others, Microsoft is already at $199 so any cuts below that might be considered predatory pricing by some clueless bureaucrats somewhere and Nintendo...

Well, Nintendo doesn't give a damn, plain and simpl...

Everything is still pointing at a 2012-2013 launch for the next wave of consoles.

Performance specs is all that is needed for preliminary work.
They can easily be assuming that the basic game engine (whether in-house or external middleware) will allow for 1080p/60 rendering with antialiasing and be laying out the character designs, environments, and other long-lead-time game design features that will be independent of gaming architecture.
Remember, a lot of the plumbing in current games is pure middleware with known interfaces so you don't need to know that l...

Japanese population is aging and their Median age is one of the highest in the world: 43.8

Which is to say that half the population is over 44 years old.

Add in that the younger (smaller) generation is more into mobile gaming than console gaming and the fact that what console gaming they do is... shall we say indiosyncratic?...

Its just a couple bundled games with a controller.
Hardly anything to get excited about.

SONY just announced the 1 million sales today.
Not last week, not last month.
Those announcements are generally made at the earliest possible date.
So if they just announced it today that means they just squeaked past it in the last few days.
Or, possibly, in the last week or two and then they were holding it back because they needed something positive to trumpet after the monthly hardware numbers came up showing yet another month of year-to-year hardware decline. ...

...on a honking big price cut...
...on subsidizing third party exclusives...
...because its not your money, right, children?

The reality is Sony does what Sony chooses to do and they spend the money they have (which is seriously, seriously, limited) the way they feel they get the most bang for their buck.

Just because Sony didn't blitz the tv screens and fast food chains doesn't mean they didn't advertise; in point of fac...

A couple months ago in an interview one of the execs was asked about ES5 and he said they had so much fun doing Fallout 3 they were going straight to the sequel. Shortly afterwards, they said they were setting up another development team to bring back another IP and expressly said it wasn't ES5.

...and when Oblivion first came out for PS3 (sans dlc), Bethesda said they hadn't figured out a way to implement dlc as after-the-fact add-ins.
The implication at the time was that the memory footprint did not allow plugging in extra content. Whether that was the case or not has never been clarified since the GOTY version was a monolithic release.
But then, it is not a good idea for developers to even hint at any weaknesses in PS3 hardware...
This time, the (unverified) a...
