I've platinumed them all and am still in awe of Elden Ring. The fact that there are probably 2-3 DLCs coming blows my mind.

I haven't understood why you decided to comment on emulation from the beginning as though it's somehow completely independent from disc-based systems. It's not. You said something snarky, I replied with something equally snarky, and now you're rambling.
Emulation is not mutually exclusive from physical media and in fact I'd argue ripping your own ISOs/backups is one of the only ethical means of emulation... yet another argument to go physical over digita...

And while we're talking about false equivalence you've moved from legal digital-only to emulation; two totally different things.
Face it. My option is much more secure, flexible, future-proof, and provides literally everything that you're pedantically grasping for. ;)
You realize hard drives degrade over time, yes? You realize companies aren't guaranteed to be around forever, yes? You realize all the other hardware required to play a game can also degrade over time, yes?
Sony or Microsoft deciding to no longer host certain content or services on their servers is the most likely of any of these scenarios. Enjoy your digital-only hardware, and I'll stick with the option of physical media.

Elden Ring is as close as it's gonna get though. I don't see how any developer tops this one unless FS outdoes themselves with the sequel.
I loved Salt and Sanctuary. IMO it's the best 2D platformer to come out in the last decade. Can't wait for Sacrifice and don't you worry... I'm always coming back to Elden Ring
