faster random access times does give the edge to the HDD. However, despite these shortcomings, I don't think I'll take advantage of this feature except for the games I play the most, Lost Odyssey would definitely benefit from this. 360 is one more step towards being a full-fledged PC.
Even though I disapprove of console gaming where you install>play, instead of just "play", this takes a good stress-load off the DVD-ROM and it's cheaper to replace the HDD than the DVD...

I get about 15-20 FPS, but I never get slow stuttering speeds around >10 FPS. People just have too high expectations. And obviously Dell's PoS.

FYI the earliest FPS game I remember playing was Castle Wolfenstein 3D(not verbatim), and I continued to play games like Goldeneye, and Turok. Then PS2/Xbox/GC era came and I started playing Halo as a casual game at my friends' house before I got hooked because me and my friends loved the 4 player-split-screen aspect. 1. Is it possible to turn off some of that HUD detail? I don't like alot of clutter on my screen; ruins the presentation IMO.
2. Can you see your own legs? I love an FPS that much more if I can see my own legs. Adds realism for me.
3. Can you see your own shadow? I don't like FPS games where your player doesn't even cast his own shadow.

I think that the that Sony would partition the XMB data ahead of the rest of the other non-essential data for faster startup times. It's normal. Set the POST(or whatever PS3 calls it) to read from the hidden partition first, and then proceed to load the rest of the data. That way you won't be able to tell the difference between a 128MB chip and a 512MB chip.

So....uhh I was able to beat GeoW@Insane in about...6 hours. So 25% tacked on is.....1hr. 30 min more? So a grand total of about 7:30 total game time then.

While I don't agree with Thompson's renegade campaign against GTAIV, I'll have no problem with Thompson campaigning against Saints' Row.
Saints' Row is a despicable game that tarnishes good names' like Max Payne and GTA.
So the old 512MB chip contained all of the FW, however now, a 128MB chip splits the necessary FW files on the chip while the rest like XMB and other non-vital files such as the XMB and settings are stored on the HDD, most likely for backup and security reasons.
If my backbone's history tells me something, by having files like the XMB and such stuffed on the HDD. If we can find a way to access the hidden partition where the other files are stored, it's possible to hack "said&...
It's all cool to help stimulate and rescue wall street and of course, there's measures to ensure the CEOs don't benefit from this crisis, but I somehow feel that the money will get pigeonhole'd and the measures set to prevent people from benefiting won't come to pass.

I remember that. I did that too, and boy was it better. Stuff just loaded like that! If Sony would release a FW patch that would allow us the same venures as the 360 w/ better improvements, AND allow us to play the game without the disc. The NXE will get shot down. SHOT-DOWN HARD.
