And in my time as a graphic designer I have learned that appreciation is relative.. As well, the definition of good graphic design varies from instructor to instructor.
My own comentary however would be - while the colors and shapes are destinct and striking, the composition could have been more communicative to the subject. Overall, I appreciate the creativity (I am growing tired of seeing boxart with the protagonist and a gun standing in fron...
"People have this newfound hate because they think going multiplat somehow hurt it.
You hate it because you are finally seeing the games for what they are!
Probably get a lot of disagrees for that, but someone had to finally say it!"
I think you are imagining things. Sure, some might dislike the fact that it was multi-platform but the reality is that this was a bad JRPG and an average game overall. - None of previous games...
@ Daver
Nah. I suppose if you are playing Simple Mode as a novice but real combinations require at least some timing and knowledge of your character. And while MVSC3's links are easier than say Street Fighter IV, I can count on the system to hit when it should rather than crossing my fingers that my attack won't whiff due to programing issues.
You are right, MVSC3 isn't an overly technical fighter but I would argue that it is more technical than MK simply due to the consistency of the engine. I have never had a problem setting an opponent up for a meaty combo in MVSC3, however, I have whiffed jump kicks and jump punches so often in MK due to spotty collision that it leaves some solid strategy on shakey ground.
If you are referring to the overall package then I agree Mortal Kombat takes the crown. However, character models, animation, and fluidity of gameplay are not Mortal Kombat's strong points and are much better in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
When I play MK, its a little hearbreaking because if it weren't for the shitty particle effects, stiff animation and reliance on dial a combo gameplay, it could have been a classic. There are some great ideas in this one.
Haven't been able to play it online due to the psn issues.
Is its online good enough to keep the game? I have been really dissappointed with the single player. The story and gameplay have flashes of brilliance but for the most part the game is pretty ho hum comparitavely to other FPSs out.
Yeah, at the end of the day Sony is a business but comparatively to Microsoft and Nintendo, but, hands down they are more often looking to deliver value to their installed base.
- PSN is still free which costs them a ton
- They want to give their users exclusive experiences through more than a dozen 1st party studios.
- Some would argue that they have one of the most diverse video game librarys of the big three catering to gamers of all tastes.
- ...
"And if we're REALLY lucky.... the dominant genre will be Sandbox.... instead of FPS."
I respect your tastes but a Sandbox dominant generation would be equal to or worse than the FPS dominant generation.
With the exception of GTAIV and Red Dead and maybe Infamous, Sandbox games this generation have really lacked narrative. I don't want every game next generation to lack story and require me to spend 30 minutes driving to my next worthless...
"If they honestly wait until 2014. They are suckers. Wii 2 will dominate the landscape. Even with slightly less power than those two consoles when they launch. Wii 2 will already have the market on its side"
Not necessarily, a two year head start is extremely dangerous in the tech world. If the console is only marginally better than the 360 and PS3, it will be blown out of the water when Microsoft and Sony bring their next consoles to market. Msoft and Sony will h...
I doubt that Microsoft or Sony will be worried by a more powerful Nintendo console. With the multi-platform business model, the new Nintendo console is going to only get 360/PS3 ports. 3rd Party developers haven't liked working with Nintendo for years.
I really don't think Nintendo is going to see the success they saw with the Wii. With this new console, they are really just finally joining current the HD gen and gamers already have established friend lists and game l...
A man coming to terms with the fact he is a clone, whose life has only known the battlefield, fights against a faceless military entity to protect a society in which he doesn't belong(or understand) from giant robotic nuclear weapons. - And to complete the mission, he will kill friends and "family".
- Doesn't sound too stereotypical to me.
Now, 'man in super suit fighting alien invaders' sounds pretty familiar no? - I agree with...
@AAACE5
Your argument is a little off-base. There is no problem separating Core from Casual. They are different markets, different games appeal to them. That doesn't make either market irrelevant - they are equally important to the gaming industry.
I think that one of the reasons many gamers on N4G are often anti-casual gaming is that when there is a saturation of casuals on a certain console, developers are forced to cater to those casuals. Thus re...
What does that have to do with anything? You are comparing an annual advertising budget that includes everything from TVs to CDs to a single marketing campaign for 1 device.
And Kinect is NOT a massive success, but I am glad that the $500 mil marketing spend succeeded in convincing you it has. Until I can play a Kinect game (or a move game for that matter) without compromise, the devices are detractors from the evolution of the video game medium.
And how...
I highly doubt it. There is a reason Sony and Nintendo passed on the tech. With the current generation of consoles, the tech limits camera based experiences not expands on them. Not to mention, Microsoft's $500 mil invested to sell what they have is a marketing decision that Sony never would have been willing to make.
You've played Gran Turismo 5 on the hardest settings? - Didn't think it was out yet.
The PC has some great games, but there are just so many great experiences available on consoles that will/may never appear on the PC.
In the last month I have played:
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Vanquish
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted 2
None of those games will grace the PC outside of emulati...
@Darth
Nah, we won't have a 3d format war. It's just a TV that uses a different tech. Both Sony and Toshiba 3d tech will be able to exist without someone "winning".
Once again, for the clueless non-fans.
It's not just the look of Dante that we take issue with. It is that a company, that has yet to prove themselves in the gameplay department is taking the helm. Shoddy framerate, auto-platforming, and shallow combat is unacceptable for a Devil May Cry title, and that is what we are all fearing with a Ninja Theory reboot.
Given the investment that is being made, 3D is not going to die. It may take a few years longer to adopt than HD did, but it is here to stay.
- With glasses-less 3D TVs coming this holiday season, it is only a matter of time before 'No glasses required 3D ready' is as standard a feature as 120hz has become.
- 3D gaming won't be a huge part of the console experience until next gen which makes it smart for Xbox to hold off.
Ironic, you can sit a six year old in front of it and they will know what to do, and yet you sit a twenty-six year old hardcore gamer in front of it and they won't.
I love my 360, it has had some fantastic games. But the Kinect is complete garbage. 500 million dollars on advertising to invest in casual gamers and yet they refuse to spend a dime on first party studios to invest in me, the hardcore gamer.
- and don't tell me that "there are...
Fans are upset at more than the fact that Ninja Theory transformed Dante into a crackhead. As someone below mentioned. Two of the big issues are with the framerate and that Ninja Theory is developing the game.
Framerate - The Unreal Engine, being used for the game, is not really designed to run above 30 FPS. The only games that run at 60 FPS are the Mortal Kombat games which are limited to 1 on 1 fighting with simple backgrounds.
Ninja Theory - They coul...
