Nothing can top RDR2's world. The world itself is the most living breathing world ever made. Only the next Rockstar game would beat it.
Absolutely deserved it.
Ofcourse they are more open in structure. RDR2 and for the same fact TW3 are heavy story focused games and to deliver such a cohesive and amazing story, you can't expect as open gameplay structure as ER or BoTW.
I consider RDR2 as the best because the world itself is unmatched, the detailing in this game is unmatched. Combine that with top level story, voice acting, music and sound design, and still one of the best looking games. Yes the gameplay and controls could'...
I still think RDR2 is the best open world game but Elden Ring and BoTW is close second for me.
Last of Us Part 2 had no competition at all from a AAA game. Elden Ring on the other hand has GoW and it blew it like it was nothing. Also, Elden Ring final tally count will be much more. It's only December.
Elden Ring is just decimating everything in goty lists.
TGA evolved from VGA. It was literally the same show where media outlets around the world would vote on the finalists and the winner.
So if you consider VGA+TGA, then Rockstar has won the maximum with 4 wins followed by multiple developers with 2 wins including Naughty Dog and Bethesda.
You're right. ER is winning almost everything. From big awards like Golden Joystick & TGA to media outlets like IGN, GameSpot & Polygon, it is sweeping awards left and right.

I always knew it will win most goty but by this margin, never would have thought. It's complete domination.
Same here. I was hoping for better visuals from UE5 especially after the first teaser. TGA trailer was a bit of a let down graphically. I hope I am wrong when the actual game comes out.
It's funny how people do math. Elden Ring is a multi-platform game that is why it has less reviews if you compare with PS5 version alone for Elden Ring. It has 96 for XBX version as well and 94 for PC.
And even if this kind of math looks complex to people then look at OpenCritic score which consolidates all platform reviews. ER is 95 there on 197 reviews and GoW is 93 there on 170 something reviews.
No matter how you look at it, ER is a higher scored ...
I knew Elden Ring would win. It happened exactly the same way as 2018. RDR2 won more technical awards but since GoW was a groundbreaking reinvention, it took Goty.
This year the same thing happened with Elden Ring.
Whenever there are 2 legendary games, the one which is more groundbreaking for its genre always takes the crown.
Both deserved it nevertheless.
The game is 10/10 for me but I absolutely agree with this. The pacing and focus of 2018 was much much better than this.
Rdr2 sold 46 million.
It was considered in Ultimate Goty (main award). It came 2nd in final votes tally. But wasn't considered in other categories.
Elden Ring anyway stole the show with 5 awards including GOTY.
And yet people bitch about RDR2 not getting a DLC when it was a complete single player game with over 100 hours playtime with great side content.
Because it was the last R* game :D
Ocarina is 99 not just because of that era but also because it has only 22 reviews. Gta IV was 100, Gta V and RDR2 were 99, BotW and Elden Ring were 98 on 22 reviews. If Ocarina had 80+ reviews it won't be having more than 97.
One of the best, sure. There are some which are better according to me like Nier Automata, MGS3, RDR2, GTA IV.
