It's not the graphical quality that bothers me about consoles, it's the resolution.
I play my PC in bed 7ft away using a 120hz 46" Sony HDTV. Wireless keyboard and a light, Saitek Cyborg metal mouse pad solve the "desk only" misconception completely. Valve is even going to release a "TV Mode" catered to folks just like me for Steam! It's an amazing time to get into PC gaming.
As for upgrading patterns, that's completely subjective based upon each individual's needs and it's certainly not necessary to upgrade every 2 y...
I want that career!! (Writing, Directing)
I'm not a doctor, but I fear you may have a minor case of severe brain damage.
It's way too early to be talking all this shit about Fortnight, what the hell? I'm excited to see more and hope for the best.
Development tools are enhanced and made more efficient and streamlined alongside the improved visuals & mechanics, so it balances out..
I'll wait just the same. Can't afford new consoles anytime soon anyways let alone new PC hardware to stay ahead of them!
Look at the pier wood texture off to the right, you can see there is a low amount of Anisotrpy as the texture loses it's sharpness fairly close out, indicating a console rendition. and it looks damn fine still.
Steam Sale started, GTA 5 screens, MGS4 rejuvenated, BF4 DLC info, Red Dead 2, LA Noire 2 and Bully 2 hinted at.. hmm, what else?
Could just be more detail, bigger story, more toys.
Makes me feel all tingly inside.
First impression: I want to push that guy sitting down at the pier into the water. and then shoot him.
Please don't let Jack Thompson see that..
Damn, that's some hard gaming work! Props to you!
I game on my PC in bed about 7 ft away on a 46" 1080p TV.. this is great news!
Wireless keyboard and metal mouse pad for the win!
I haven't had any work and could hardly afford any classes for over 3 months and thus have many days to play.
It's over rated. Your time with games is more precious and is thus tenfold more enjoyable.
Improved PC UI!
@ExCest
No, because I think most developers won't push 1920x1080 native in every game over higher quality effects aside from racing and sports games. I'm guessing most games will likely render native 1680x1080 upscaled to 1080p
Accidental comment that I can't delete.
No shit, but optimize the hell out of software being run by the latest in quad core CPU tech and a 7850 or similar and you're going to see some pretty graphics at a much higher resolution than 1280x720. With these specs, we can expect at the very least every game to run at 1680x1080.
What also gives it away is how the detail in the wooden pier texture fades while still fairly close to the camera, indicating a relatively low amount of anisotropic filtering.
