To the commenters that stated otherwise,
DVD is a HD "medium" Microsoft and DivX proved it by released both WMV HD DVD and Divx HD DVD discs before HD DVD and Blu Ray were released, they were successfully and really helped "quench" the wait for the newer formats.
I could see why, if they released a add on tomorrow their would be no demand since for the same price of the drive you can probably pick yourself up a standalone player, the HD DVD drive is a prime example, it sold just over 300K while standalone players were doing laps around it in terms of sales.
The "games" argument isn't valid, if that were the case publishers would have released games on HD DVD when it was still around, which would have been pretty cool they see ...
Where's Banjo at?
I wasn't interested in Haze to begin with but it's a shame what the lack of sales lead too.
Racing games graphically tend to push consoles really well.
I wouldn't go as far as saying its "secret", it could just be box art decor.
This story seems to be blow out of proportion, probably someone like Major Nelson telling a buddy to hope onto Home to check it out during their meeting and somehow the media makes it look like Home meetings are a staple at Microsoft.
Why is this surprising anyone? It's always been like that, CES isn't a gaming oriented show so the target audience won't really be as interested compared to E3 or another gaming related event.
Look at the Laserdisc market, years after it collapsed it was still a highly collected item, and in many cases it still is today but on a much smaller scale compared to a few years ago.
@ Below: Like I said I own both formats and then some so their is no reason for me to go out and "defend" a format by any means.
Cliffbo: Well said, bubbles for you! And again I have a few formats including Blu Ray and HD DVD. I use my HD DVD player from time to time b...
I got mine for Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, and Band of Brothers, Dark Knight was also a factor but not as major as my other choices.
I have Blu Ray, actually I have both formats! :D
@ Danja: Their are alternatives, HD VMD, CBHD, etc are all plausible alternatives if someone REALLY wants to avoid Blu Ray.
Your point? HD content is HD content regardless of whether the format is still available predominantly in stores.
One just came out a few weeks ago, it was Scottish horror film I believe. P2 IIRC.
HD DVD sales have still been pretty strong according to some recent reports because its dirt cheap now and liquidators were buying up stock left and right.
Their are people out their who supported HD DVD but are waiting for either cheaper prices or a better 2.0 player that's not the PS3.
Unless something changed lately 100 friends is the most out of the big 3. They already said a bigger friends list = slower load times so take your pick complainers.
Why is it when Home beta reviews, rants, glitches, etc were out they would get reported in seconds yet when it's about the Windows 7 beta.......
Maybe but us Omikron fans have been waiting much longer ;)
This game looks amazing but my only fear is a reduction in graphical quality when stuff is actually on screen like in those station pictures assuming their will be people in them.
If something is sold for $20 at a store HipHop that doesn't mean the company producing that item will not receive all that money. Infact the PS3 is being sold at a loss making your statement completely false. In the end Sony is losing selling the two consoles whereas Microsoft is gaining from selling the 4 consoles.
Not really, the MSN team is doing pretty well, they are deeply rooted in the Internet service provider scene in North America as well as Encarta, Ad Center, etc which are all successful.
