Perhaps Linux people pissed at Jobs for essentially "stealing" their kernel and using it in OSX???? Compared to Microsoft who makes money from Apple and vice versa.....

In the 90s Apple was on the verge of Bankruptcy so Steve Jobs had to go to Microsoft and ask for cash, they worked out a deal and Microsoft loaned him a few million to save his business, and he did just that. Funny how today Apple attacks so harshly the hand that fed it a few years back.

Yep they own all the ips of the ex studios, and yes like with all studio closures half the staff were relocated to other parts of Microsoft Game Studios.
Why are people comparing this game to LittleBigPlanet? The purpose is to teach people how to develop games, think of it like "first hits free".
Future proofing is all I really consider to be honest, it comes down to fire X amount of people now and save XX amount in the long run.
I was actually a fan of both Freelancer and Brute Force, in my opinion both should have sold really well and unfortunately only one of them did.

Free Radical technically is still around, just not in the best state, hopefully they get bought or credited, they are a recognized studio after all.

Edit: Freelancer didn't sell horribly well and Brute Force sold insanely well breaking Halo: CE record. Regarding when the recession started, that's still being debated now and I'm sure it will be debated decades from now, although in 2007 people started murmuring about it.
They probably hope the game will do well on the 360 (The Xbox 360 needs a good MMORPG that doesn't start with Phantasy or Final) and allow them to reopen servers.
Steam is a distribution platform, a online store basically. Games for Windows Live is a service, they are two different things, I don't know why people always confuse the two when they are nothing alike.

The GTA 4 problems were caused by Rockstars own DRM and horrible design decisions, not by Microsoft.

Dreamworks makes CGI movies, Disney did but farms all their stuff out to Pixar now since the company wants to bring back animated films, which is good since Disney is only Disney with the stuff that made them famous, what on earth was the old CEO thinking when he decided to shut down ALL studios focused on 2D animation in favor of 1 3D animation studio????
The entire studio wasn't layed off, it was only a good chunk, a few people are still around. Over 10 thousand people lost their jobs in the past few weeks at Microsoft, I doubt these guys were laid off solely due to the fact that they were a inhouse developer.
