On average burn out in the games industry is 5 years, I wonder what the average is at Activision?!?!
I'm getting pretty COD fatigued, I really started noticing it with WaW, despite the new environments and everything it still felt like COD. Don't get me wrong the franchise is great and all but I think I need a break. Maybe by the time MW 2 comes out I will be ready for more COD?
In the grand scheme of things the World War market is niche, their are plenty of modern and even future warfare based titles. Besides it's not even confirmed what war this game will take place in!
I don't know why I'm getting disagrees, the team at Treyarch had roughly 8 months to not only build a engine but a game to boot. For all we know it could have taken them a month to build it, given how at the time the engine was graphically impressive imagine what they could do with at least a year to build a engine from scratch.
I'd like to see Treyarch build their own engine for this, the COD 3 engine was impressive considering it was built in less then 8 months.
This list is fail for not including The Duke! Always bet on Duke!!!
Funny thing about co-op, people say local co-op is dying yet its become more and more popular!
I hope this game sells well enough to pull the publisher out of bankruptcy.
It was close between Microsoft and Sony, although depending on your alignment that FF announcement was either huge or meh. I guess in a weird way it might not have the "system seller" effect Sony was hoping it would?
I personally know a few FF fanboys who despite using the Xbox 360 as their main console are getting 13 for the PS3. Not because of the disk issue but because their FF collections are largely PS dominant. :P
Right, Rare will probably be one of Microsoft's spotlight developer this year. Microsoft has really underused Rare, the studio is huge and has potential to be working on 4-5 projects simultaneously. A developer is a developer regardless of where they work, they just need the right motivation which hopefully Microsoft gives them.
In a few years Xbox Live will be a billion dollar venture churning out a billion on a yearly basis according to Microsoft. That's huge and assuming their predictions are on track they could eclipse all they've lost over the past few years on XBL alone. Microsoft may not have launched as successfully as Nintendo or Sony but they are definitely on track to make more then them if things go their way.
Stock buybacks are likely especially in this economy, purchases are plausible but they could be for all of Microsoft and not just the games division.
It would be cool to see what Microsoft has lined-up as well as a PS3 price cut.
Duke games have been ambitious and always relied on good tech to achieve what they wanted, same thing happened with Prey. They developers wanted to do something that wasn't possible at that time so they put the project on hold until technology advanced far enough for them to do so.
That being said, I don't know why they didn't develop other games, they did produce them though but that probably won't get you as much cash.
The dream would be this was all a joke and 3D Realms is still around! :)
If someone else picks up DNF it just won't be the same, without most of the original team behind it that is, Duke Nukem was awesome on so many different, odd, and unimaginable levels. I remember in DN 3D you can basically play pool with your foot in the second level, that was amazing but totally miscellaneous, it served no purpose but was fun to fool around with.
The cards sound cool, what the hell is a "zombie" outfit? Wait, I don't think I want to know!
I don't mind much if it is true or not, just how the article has no proof behind it and it was approved and will probably reach 1000 heat before being taken down. If a scan or something is uploaded I'm fine with it.
If they were going to make such controversial claims the least they could have done was upload a scan of the article, even a crappy pic with a cell phone could have sufficed....
Not really defending it, just wondering really,
Why? For the 8 months of development time Activision had given them COD 3 was pretty good. World at War also lived up to the bar 4 had set for them.
