You think IE 7 is bad? You have obviously never used IE 6 which was good at first but the lack of updates killed it in the long run.

The article says cost and improved picture quality over DVD, if Blu Ray was cheaper it would get a whole lot more interesting.

It's not funded by the Chinese government, it is supported by them because it reduces licensing fees paid to foreign companies. The Chinese government has supported nearly 20 formats this decade because the creators promised lower licensing fees over DVD, Blu Ray, etc.

If the government really wanted to get involved they would ban Blu Ray...

In this case no, both CBHD and Blu Ray are officially available with the consent of both the DVD Forum and BDA.

Not necessarily, if the movie has a English track it will be in the release, all releases have subtitles for the local languages which is why CBHD and Blu Ray are pretty popular in the region.

Ex, if you buy Harry Potter XXXX on either format, it will be in English with a possible Chinese language track and of course subtitles for a bunch of languages.

CBHD hasn't been cracked yet, plus these numbers no matter where you calculate them are being calculated through sales at retail stores, not shady markets.

I'm sure there is a import shop in some of the many China Town's of the world with a CBHD player for sale. :p

The format is basically HD DVD, they just added a new layer of security to it and called it a day. It was supposed to come out in 2007 to help HD DVD, not sure why it was delayed so heavily. This must really be salt in the HD DVD wounds hearing the format was released 2 years later and is off to a such a good start. :P

They did a study a few weeks ago that basically said internet users in China have outgrown the entire US population. It will also depend on how this effects piracy in the region, can costs really get to a point where people just go legit? Similar things happened in NA with music, a song for $0.99 encourage more people to go legit.

That being said, it will be interesting to see physical media's use for film distribution outside of discs, i.e, flash drives.

Wow, 6 disagrees and no reason why, this is why I hate N4G! =/

CBHD essentially is HD DVD but with more security and codec support. For those that remember, when the format war started in the "west", HD DVD was outselling Blu-ray, than Blu Ray made a comeback and the rest is history.

Morganfell, technically, this is HD DVD, about 97% of the specifications are HD DVD, the rest were added security measures.

This has nothing to do with pr...

It won't impact us much if at all but it is tech related, it will however extend the life of physical media over digital distribution which for HD/physical media lovers like me isn't so bad.

Warner Brothers is the only Hollywood studio, a bunch of local movie studio who own the rights for distributing not only their own films but western films as well.

Basically what ever Warner Brothers is releasing on Blu Ray is available on CBHD from what I have seen.

I doubt they will go overseas, probably into neighboring territories. Studios who support CBHD in China will support it in other nations if they ever decided to move.

I doubt it will come out of China, it might move into other Asian regions (India, Vietnam, etc) but I doubt any thing else.

Warner Brothers is supporting the format, if Blu Ray is indeed losing and money is being made I'm sure other studios will jump in as well.

If this will be for the main series I hope it will be a "bonus" mission that is optional from the main game. Similar to the recent episode released for Gears of War 2.

A spin off game could also be cool,

The title "Siren in the Maelstrom" is spewing with Norse mythology, given the appeal of Norse mythology to the Silicon Knights guys, perhaps it is a working tile for Too Human 2?

I still have to pick up Too Human, I loved the demo but I was short on funds at the time, heard it's a good game, not great but good.

How could he miss Halo Wars or even Halo 3: O.D.S.T, at first I thought the list may have been PS3 oriented but it makes no reference to it being so.

The Wii had some pretty cool titles come out this year as well, mostly from SEGA.

According to other posters, load times have not increased in anyway for the games they tested.

Because Sony never has the best luck when it comes to introducing new technology which is a shame because sometimes the tech is really good.

Funny how MSN Journalists write about all things independent of Microsoft, they even do reviews for PS3 games, hardware, etc which are unsurprisingly unbiased.

Also, did you happen to miss the pretty noticeable from CNET logo at the top?

If a technology is deemed a failure it is not the fault of others but the fault of the company that made it. Sony unfortunately hasn't had the best success when it came to introducing some products to market, some were truly ahead of there time.

Better compression technology I assume? This would be great for multidisc games.
