I've never read a more ill informed assessment of advantages for HD-DVD. First off as most people have pointed out Blu-ray players can upscale DVD's just like HD-DVD players can.

Secondly HD-DVD is not becoming the media of Choice for computers as there isn't even a 1x consumer level burner, and it's been well over a year since the first Blu-ray burners came out. Current Blu-ray burners handle speeds up to 4x, but most affordable ones are still at 2x. The Toshiba SD-H903A was su...

People argued that the batteries were not replaceable, and that Sony would only replace the controller if it were under warranty. If Sony will replace the controller for free if the batteries die under warranty, then there is no need for an individual to have to worry about replacing their battery in this situation. Thus the only situation where a battery would be replaced is when the warranty has expired.

Honestly a li-on battery should last at least 3-5 years unless it was def...

So many places improperly reported that the batteries were not replaceable, yet a simple look in the ps3 manual on page 18 shows the steps, and I've seen the battery my self. I've got to take a bubble from you for continuing to propagate this myth by looking up false stories when a simple search on how to replace that battery would have come up with this other article: http://www.joystiq.c...

You are partially correct in that a rechargeable battery will eventually die and have to be replaced, but you are incorrect that you have to send it in to Sony to have this done. In fact this is the most common myth around the ps3 controller. If people were to actually read the manual for it it clearly explains on page 18 that if the controllers battery dies you simply remove the 5 screws from the bottom of the controller, take out the old battery and replace it with a new one.

Walmart has players on clearance, and won't restock HD-DVD in store. Circuit City has them on clearance, and won't be stocking them in stores again. Woolworth stated they are clearing them out and now only carrying blu-ray. Toshiba can make the players for a little while more, but if no one carries them, then they won't sell, and they will disappear. That would be going some where, and where it's going is not into peoples homes for much longer.

HD-DVD is not going to win the war. No manufacturer other than Toshiba will touch it any more. Most retailers are putting them on clearance because they will no longer stock them. HD-DVD will sell well while the current inventory clears out, but then the sales will dry up. There is no way HD-DVD can catch up with blu-ray. It has consistently been out sold every month since last year, and the fewer retailers that carry it the less it will sell. It's a catch 22 cycle that it can not get out of ...

Clearance sales means stores are no longer going to carry a give item. It's a fire sale. Sure the item looks like a bargain now, but if you realize that all the movies you get for it will have to be repurchased in the future because you won't be able to get a player suddenly that seemingly good deal sucks for the long term. A player won't last as long as the discs that contain your movies, and if you can't get the players in the future, then your collection isn't worth owning. You should buy ...

in a few years, and there are not replacement HD-DVD player you will have to repurchase your movies in a different format. I just don't see the logic in buying something that you won't be able to use in the future. You can still get VHS for example, but heaven help you if you try and find a beta player...

In the case of the core owners, they are now starting to get games or parts of games they simply can not play. So where do we draw the line? At this point it looks like the only thing that is require to force a user to get a HD is placing a little orange sticker on the game box. MS keeps changing their stance one the purpose of the HD. First no game would use it except if it was from live or for xbox bc, then they added RPG's to the equation, now they silently added a racing games online abi...

My understanding is that Microsoft modified their HD requirements not to long ago so that larger RPGs could mandate the use of a HD so long as they indicated it on the box. Burnout is the first game outside of the types that MS stated before that now requires it. I guess the question is if they are now allowing it for regular games as well so long as the box is marked, then the core owners could technically get screwed at any time for any game not just for online or backwards compatibility.

You're projections fail to take into concideration a few factors. First how many game were over 1 million on the xbox 360 in it's first year and 2 months for America, and 10 months for Europe? You see if we can look at that figure and it's current figure we can base the ps3 projections off that as a rough estimate. The next problem is that consoles are always increasing in numbers. Thus as more people own the ps3 more games will break the 1 million mark. Given these two factors if we align th...

This is the first golf game that actually looks appealing to me, and the fact they've done away with the traditional meter based swing system is also a bonus. I'll probably give this a rent, and if I like it maybe even pick it up. Some may disagree, but this looks a lot more "fun" than Tiger Woods to me; however, will have to wait and see.

Activision made the PS3 GH3 controllers proprietary instead of open standard unlike all the other controllers for other systems. Harmonix made a patch for Rock Band so it could use the Custom controllers of GH3, but Activision wants them to pay a fee to use it... Harmonix refused to pay because all their controllers for older GH games prior to selling the property rights to Activision have been open standard for all game developers. Thus your current proprietary controller is being limited by...

VG Chartz is the closest to accurate info most of us are going to get on the sales of titles, and according to it R&C:FToD looks like in the first 4 weeks it sold around 242k not 75k as you suggest. Based off the same data it's currently sitting at just under 660k total sales. We know VG Chartz isn't super accurate, but it's not 167,000 off like your comment would have us believe.

The PS3 has a build in video limiter for NTSC video. This limiter sets the black level to roughly 20% lighter, and the light levels roughly 20% darker to fit with in the NTSC bandwidth on all standard def televisions, and many lower end and older HD-TV's. This basically means that the PS3 by default is NTSC safe where as the xbox 360 is not. If you were to compare these two consoles on a SD-TV with the default settings the PS3 would be less likely to blow out the low and top end of the video;...

If they had announced it before the holiday season, they would have lost out on all the sales of their HD-DVD discs during Christmas. Now if the people who purchased their movies switch to blu-ray there is a chance they will pick up the movie again. Thus it's a win win situation for their pockets.

A while ago there was a rumor circulating around some other forums that Microsoft had approached Samsung about make a Blu-ray player for the 360. If HD-DVD does indeed die, then I'm sure Microsoft will put out a blu-ray drive for the 360.

Honestly, I don't care who the developer of a format is so long as the format is a good format. Sony's format is this case is the better of the two. This is not the first time Sony has had a successful medium, and it's doubtful it will be the last. My main issue with post 18.1 is that it makes it sound as if Sony is the bad guy in this battle when none of the companies on either side are innocent. All have done and still do stupid things in the name of money. Sony is no better or worse than M...
