Multithreading. By starting on the ps3 the developers have to ensure their games are multithreaded from the start, and seeing as the 360 has 3 cores to work with it ultimately benefits the 360 games as well. A multithreaded application opens up more potential processing power, thus by starting on the PS3 it forces the devs to make better code from the get go. Everybody wins!

The ability to turn off friend notifications while watching a movie. IMO the single most annoying thing to me is sitting down with the wife and kids to watch a movie and in the middle of it up pops a message that one of my friends is online... I realize I could sign out to resolve the issue, but why not simply give people the ability to prioritize what points the system should alert you when a friend logs on. They could even add a feature to set it up so you can see a basic who's online list ...

I'm with the folks that call Gears of War, Gears, and God of War, GoW. I do this for a few reasons. First and foremost God of war is older, and had the acronym first, check Wikipedia. Secondly the reason that Gears of war has more google hits with the acronym is because Gears of war and Gears of war 2 have been in the press in the more recent past for a longer period of time, when God of war 3 is closer to release the google hits will go up. Lastly and the biggest reason for calling God of Wa...

I think it pretty much summarizes the whole debate.

Harmonix made Guitar Hero, then they made Rock Band, and sold off the Guitar Hero franchise to Activision. Technicaly all Activision bought was a name, and the ability to screw over PS3 owners by turning a once open source controller into a proprietary device. Rock Band is the True successor to Guitar Hero, all new Guitar Heroes are just some want-to-be company riding in the wake of Harmonix.

does not know anything about anti-aliasing. Opinions are one thing, but I posted a link with physical evidence from a review that claimed that the ps3 didn't have anti-aliasing as well, and yet the image speaks other wise; however, as it is obvious some people are ignorantly clicking on disagree with out actually understanding what AA is, here is a link to wikipedia to try and help educate people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Most if not all videos I've seen links for on these forums have been shrunk down from 720p thus are inaccurate to judge the AA quality. The only time I saw full resolution comparisons were in single screen shots, and they clearly showed more AA on the ps3 version. I even pointed out where the AA was occurring, and why it couldn't have been an artifact of upscaling.

I've linked to one of the full resolution images thats most revealing below. I'll point out areas where the ps3 clea...

is the guy says in the article that the PS3 version has aliasing issues, yet when I looked at the comparison images on page 5, I don't follow how he came to this conclusion. Just so people are on the same page, aliasing is the stair stepping artifacts created when contrasting pixels on the screen are not super sampled in some fashion to create the illusion of a smother line.

Given that knowledge look at the helicopter shot over the bridge. The 360 version has a very distinct al...

If I'm given the choice of higher resolution or good AA, I'll take the good AA any day. It's pretty amazing how many people think that resolution is the key to a better looking game when AA is much more effective. Of course having both is ideal, but if I have to go with one or the other AA wins hands down.

But I agree with people who say VGchartz is off typically with their predicted units moved, and their reported units moved for a given (current/past few) month(s) when compared to the NPD numbers; however, arn't these particular charts based off the final reported NPD numbers as well as similar reporting systems for other countries? As VGchartz didn't have their "sources" back when many of the older consoles came out. Thus to be accurate they would have to use similar reporting data...

If the Ps3 has Split screen I'm grabbing it first as one of my friends and I have a game night every couple of weeks. This would make it top the list for a must have for me, and then down the road when the 360 DLC comes out I'll just pick it up for my 360 as well.

I often visit my brother, and it's much easier to lug a blu-ray disc to try and tempt him with than to drag my ps3. I almost bought the DL version of Warhawk till I found out it was node locked. The blu-ray version is what convinced my brother and and associate of mine to both buy the game them selves.

according to the Konami web site the gun metal grey ps3 is only a 40gb PS3. If so that means no BC for this unit, but it does come with the Dualshock 3. here is the direct link:

One of the fundamental requirements for a patent to stand up in court is for it to be proven as an original idea that was not public knowledge before. Seeing as games like Vib Ribbon violated this 2004 patent back in 2000 it can hardly be claimed that it is original. Also even if Microsoft were to try and force this issues, they would have to prove that the ps3 is just a game system and not a media center as they patent is specifically attempting to target game consoles. If you ask me there a...

that can make current dual layer Blu-ray players handle 50Gb per layer. This firmware patch would mean a ps3 could potentially see 100gb disc's in the future. Quad layer discs are out of the question for the ps3 though as the drive is only a dual layer drive. Hitachi is currently trying to adapt it so they can get 100Gb per layer on a Blu-ray disc as well, but have not succeeded yet. If they manage to get that working it would mean 200Gb dual layer ps3 discs in the future. To my knowledge the...

I mean shortages at under 300,000 consoles is ridiculous. This would mean all Microsoft's existing warehouse stock would have all had to have been depleted, and they didn't produce any new stock in the past few months for figures so low to possibly deplete the supply's. If the number of consoles sold were 2-3 times what they are, then I could potentially accept that there was a shortage, but there is nothing in the 360 that could be in such short demand that they couldn't get the supplies. Th...

the problem is that with the elimination of the two chips that handled the PS2 backwards compatibility now their would be a fairly large amount of games that simply would not work with out an enormous amount of debugging time spent on the task. So Sony opted to drop BC instead which ultimately saves them money. This also has the side effect that if they do port ps2 games to the PS3 they can quality control the stuff released to a greater degree, and it give them a way to make profit off them...
