I only worry that it might be tied in with some DC tv show or film. If even one of them was tied to the new Teen titans for example they’d need to fire their planning team.
I think it would be awesome if one of the games was a Justice League dungeon crawler like Marvel used to do (X-men Legends and MUA). That genre was dropped sadly but could easily find new fans as well as old. Especially with coop (local and online). Simple enough games to run on Switch as easily as o...
I’d rather they do something different.
Obsidian has stated they’d like to see Pillars of Eternity perhaps going in a different direction or even allowing other Devs to handle it, so how about an “Elder scrolls” PoE game? First/third person open world game in the same universe. Something a bit more like kingdoms of Amalur (more action-like combat mechanics) or even a better than Dragon Age Inquisition take on their current isometric party system PoE.
Or...
Probably more like 2-3x the Pro/X anyways. From the base model consoles the differences will probably be relatively closer to a normal jump (6-8x anyways). So if you stuck with launch/Slim then the jump will seem higher than if you went mid gen upgrades.
We can still see gains elsewhere but if you already play 4K on say an X then that’s like 3-4x base model right there which is effectively subtracted by “potential gains” for next. If they did 4k/60 then gains would be ev...
Depends on the game. Some like DQ11 on Pro have noticeable artifacts (grass and some trees).
Next gen it probably won’t matter as much though. Spidey and GoW were incredible looking and use checkerboarding.
Kind of true actually.
They (MS) don’t release numbers but Forza Horizon has its best UK sales for the franchise with this one (I’m sure being in UK helped), even with it being on Game Pass . I’m sure it probably did equally as well elsewhere, although probably with more GO subs, since the last Horizon game was so well received as well.
We’ve yet to see how Game Pass plays in on anything bigger though. Halo or Gears for example. Anything new they devel...
I’d put most VR games on the same level as indies. Just because there are a lot of them doesn’t mean it’s sustainable for most companies. Even the big companies that invest in it commit a fraction of their real teams.
I don’t think it’s dead, but it’s actually probably less successful than Indies scene as a whole. The successes are still big enough to try your luck though so it isn’t going to crash and burn yet.
2018 was one of the biggest e3 showings ever though, but that’s because Xbox showings are not usually the best anyways (and I’m a fan of them).
I’m curious what the tag line will be next year and if we get to see the first project from one of their new studios. Or even a remaster? I’m not sure who owns the Enslaved IP for example but a port would be a faster project than the new game most likely while they transition over still.
Sort of like how hellbla...
Technically it just got one.
Spencer’s Position from back in 2014 changed to a new one when MS made a new position in the company for him, EVP of Gaming, after he and MS’s CEO decided that MS needs to go bigger than they were in the gaming world. Since he got the new position is when they acquired or are starting the new studios finally.
Matt Booty just got promoted this January to more or less Spencer's previous job. Not sure about any other change...
Not sure about “win” but in a better position to compete.
It would have been nice if they did this all sooner or that two of their first games weren’t remasters (Gears UE and MCC—although I enjoyed both). That made two of their biggest studios focus less on new games this gen for that time period which is a bit of a downer since Xbox didn’t have many studios this gen to begin with (less after Lionhead closure).
Hopefully they learned their lesson as i en...
Xbox “usually” has better multiplayer games (first party compared to PS), or at least is arguably as good/better (Killzone/Resistance fans, more niche Warhawk/MAG last gen—not so much this gen for them though). Coop heavy as well.
I don’t think most people would really put Xbox Narratives in an advantage though. That’s where Sony started killing it, last gen on especially. It’s MS’s weak point and they have relied on third parties to handle it for them to various degrees...
I jump around.
I play xbox exclusives on my Xbox (some on PC—I played Halo Wars 2 on Pc due to Game Pass+Play anywhere). Until the X though most of my multiplatform games were on my PS4 (and then Pro).
Now I’m back on the Xbox since day 1 Scorpio arrived. Next gen will vary as well for me but I do enjoy Xbox games (Gears for example, but less than the original game, probably because more friends moved off of it). I like too many game genres to usually ...
@Neo:
Mattrick and Spencer both led MS’s entertainment divisions previously, which included the Xbox Division but MS still included it as a packaged deal and not it’s own thing. So MS had a different vision and scope for the Xbox back then imo.
Once Spencer was given that poisition in 2014 he spoke openly about thinking the xbox needed a change in direction. Sadly Lionhead and Scalebound were possible casualties in that shakeup , although we don’t know ...
I’m wondering if it was MS’s decision or if Ninja theory has enough autonomy to further publish their old game on their own? You’d think MS might have a say now but you never know. I wonder if either MS or NT is using 505 as a third party retail publisher or simply distribution?
Just curious how it worked out as it’s the first thing NT has done since being acquired and it’s an interesting circumstance when you think about it.
Photo realism? If it’s 480p again maybe.
1080p could look phenomenal of course but not truly photorealistic yet—not 100% of the time anyways. I’m sure you will probably find some areas or tweak photo mode enough to get some shots that will straddle the fence. Even today you can sometimes given the right tools, but as i said only under specific conditions. The right Depth of Field to blur distances, filters and contrast/brightness/time of day which can compensate for mod...
If people want unique worlds and not a ton of repeated characters and/or textures than get used to huge file sizes.
Looking forward to Avengers game that Square is handling (Crystal Dynamics lead I believe—Eidos handled the latest TR). Hope it’s given the same kind of quality control as Spidey.
Any others we know of yet?
Kingdom come isn’t really known for its solid optimization though. It’s a cool rpg and looks great but has its technical quirks too.
I think God of War is a better made game overall, but I actually enjoyed Octopath more.
Main story and side quests need to be handled better than their old, and as far as F4 still is, system of minimal cutscenes and/or real time animations. There are parts that are pretty interesting sure, but they are still primarily dialogue (text+voice) based storytelling focused in a time when visual storytelling has been more of the norm for a long time now.
Not hating on it as I love my jrpgs for example which are still 90% text based anyways, but Western RPG wise, Bet...
Some Game Pass games sort of sneak through atm, anything that is Play Anywhere for example. Not all games are Play anywhere though.
This means pc might get a much bigger library available through Game Pass as it opens it to all (or at least a lot) of other games to subscribers.
