More than just stealth has been disappointing this generation, richard919.
Thief (all), Tenchu 1-2, Splinter Cell 1-3, MGS1: I miss you guys. Along with many other real games/genres from those eras. When I examine the ADD, foaming-at-the-mouth-impatient , testosterone-infested gaming culture of today, it not only makes me long for the days of the PS1-2, but makes me think I am likely on my way out of gaming at 37. Most of the garbage out there today is so vapid, shallow, and ...
Voted down for space-wasting bullshit.
1. Warhawk (like the original)
2. Colony Wars - big time, totally ignored genre now
3. An actually scary Resident Evil, in the original's tradition
4. Parasite Eve
5. Dino Crisis
6. Legend of Legaia
7. Jade Cocoon
8. Legend of Dragoon
9. Suikoden
10. Tenchu - hasn't been a great one since the 2nd PS1 game
Bonuses:
Alundra
Breath of Fire
Wild Arms
I know it would not and could not ever happen, but the kid in me wishes that Sega would come back to the hardware business, and revive all of it's old classics.
Voting down a flamebait "article". Didn't even read it to give it hits. Tired of those that can't stop stirring the hate.
John Carmack has forgotten more than what most of the critical douches on this site will ever know. Armchair game designers don't impress me.
Oh, and I forgot Turok 2, Colony Wars: Vengeance, and Rogue Squadron. Loved them.
No more editing. One can look at this handy list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
More classics on there than I even remembered.
IMO, things slid downhill once gaming became popular, and execs saw that they could make big money in this industry. Now, publishers make devs play it safe and only AAA titles even get a green light to begin production. They only want guaranteed, safe, hits.
PS1(my fav) and 2 eras of gaming will probably be remembered as the golden age of console video gaming. There was imagination, and people took risks. I miss those days, when gaming was for the geek in the closet. Now ever...
Xenogears.
Weii said bubs for Proto and smily.
FFX was one of those rare games that I imported the soundtrack for. Nuff said.
Just another inflammatory piece. Voted down.
Inflammatory flamebait. "Article" voted down.
Inflammatory opinion piece. Article voted down.
I liked the old reviewing system in EGM magazine back in the day. 4 reviewers per game. 4 different scores, and they addressed each other's scores in their reviews. And if something deserved a 3 or a 4, it got a 3 or a 4.
It's a shame print is dead. I sued to love taking my gaming and pc mags to work, hehe.
Yeah, I still have the game in my desk drawer here. You don't throw out greatness just because it's old, hehe.
Everything goes through a bell curve of popularity. Every single thing on Earth will rise, plateau, and fall. Like Rome, disco, parachute pants, 80's glam metal, America, and so on. Nothing stays on top forever.
Well, maybe human failings like greed, hate, and arrogance will. Jury's still out, there.
I loved this game to death. Like Clive Barker's Undying, it was criminally overlooked.
I don't want to be misunderstood. I don't hate Gears or Gears fans. Or even Epic for that matter. I just think Unreal deserved better, and it still kinda bothers me. And Cliff has definitely rubbed me the wrong way at times.
I wasn't actually going to respond, but I'll jot a quick thing. PC gamers aren't arrogant. They're angry because many to most of all the high-dollar developers have lessened/ceased PC development in favor of consoles. Simply more money to be made there. Much larger audience, more sales, same hardware platform to develop for, so it's easier and cheaper.
PC gamers get scraps, indie efforts, shit console ports, and MMO's with a 2 or 3 AAA titles a year. I miss the...
