I've always stuck to the opinion that 30+ is fine by me. Once things dive under 30, well, that's no bueno. And this comes from a PC gamer.
I'd rather dial up all the graphical bells and whistles and run at 30, than dial everything back to run at 60. But, to each their own.
Very little of any of the footage that has ever been shown from that game has ever screamed "Final Fantasy" to me. And even the footage from this past E3 looks exactly like it always has: a game designed for, and still should run on, PS3.
Very few fragments of the footage I saw said "I was designed from the ground up for next-gen systems". To me, this is still v13 with a 15 slapped on it.
The released footage from this game brings 2 things to mind:
1. There are still so many under-utilized time periods that could be used for cool games
2. I'd *love* to see a late-19th century Batman alternate take
I always thought fanatical loyalty to fragile lumps of plastic and faceless corporations was pretty laughable. And sad. Makes me embarrassed to be included in the category of "gamer". In this context, I am loyal to one thing: games. Regardless of platform.

I never did understand this used game BS. In order for a game to become used, it has to be bought by someone, somewhere, that first time. In that instant, a publisher/dev should consider themselves paid in full.
This used game thing is just a cash grab. Pubs/devs see the cash Gamestop and co. have made and say "I want some of that dough.". Not because they definitely deserve a slice, but just because they want more.

Summed this gen up as I often do. Well said bub for you. I was perfectly content to play games in my PS1/2 and watch DVDs in my DVD player. None of which were networked. And paying 50 bucks while doing it. And enjoying a large variety in games being made.
I don't think we'll ever see a Xenogears or a King's Field or a Symphony of the Night or a Colony Wars again.

I would be perfectly content for the next gen to render in actual 1080p, with all the bells and whistles, and at a snappy framerate with no damn chugging.
There are a *lot* of devs out there that would love to do a *lot* of things, but never will because of money, time, or licensing issues. They say it interviews all the time. And frankly, I wouldn't want Obsidian to work on any more games I might like. They'd just turn out the typical Obsidian way: bug-ridden, incomplete, messes.

Well, I just watched the trailer. And the only thing I can say is that if this industry is in trouble, it's because of gamers, not developers. I am convinced now that gamers are simply less intelligent in this generation, and have lost the capacity to have an imagination and embrace new ideas. They always say they want new ideas or new execution of old ideas, and when you give them what they ask for, they fucking cry about it. And that's what we have here.
