I'm buying all of my games digitally from the store. I've had too many disks break, get dropped, and get scratched to the point where they aren't usable to bother with that anymore. I'm also a Steam gamer and I'm used to the completely digital "locked in" ecosystem and I've learned to just get over it. I think there are a lot of people who feel the same way and are holding off on pre-ordering the games so they can get them digitally.

While I agree that the $100 doesn't matter, I think the Xbox One will appeal to a much broader audience than the PS4.

MS has partnered with services like P90 and Zumba to appeal to those who work out and they could even announce partnerships with a gym where if you sign up with a 2 year agreement and enroll in a class you could get a discount on the Xbox One. I can even envision classes forming around it because it will be able to have Group Skype calls up to 25 people in...

@SilentGuard and Excalibur,

It does matter that there is a Kinect on every console simply because as a developer I know that there isn't any additional cost associated with my game for end users to purchase. There are a number of people who might buy a game for say $10 that wouldn't if that game costs $10 + $100 for a Kinect. It also means that many devs could make smaller cheaper games that might not be AAA or even AA titles, but could be a short fun game for kids th...

@GryestOfBluSkies

Those two pieces of tech cost money to Sony to develop and implement, and because they are part of every system, they are part of the $60 they are loosing on each unit, and every extra controller they sell. How much of that is attributed to the Light Bar and the touch pad we don't know.

I want it for the other services it potentially will offer through Skype and potentially other services like being able to scan in an object and create a 3D world for my kids to interact with (becoming a character in a learning game) or trade objects (Skylander type toys) with others in their living room.

My wife will use it for exercising (Kind of benefits us both) and watching TV, Skyping to her sisters, and gaming with her friends.

Do we need Kinect to wor...

@ABeastNamedTariq Hi Tariq, I'm not attacking you, but I wanted to respond to your comment since I'm a software developer and for the first time I'm considering developing for a game console. I've talked to several other people at work and they agree with me that the PS Eye just doesn't make economic sense to develop for as an independent or small shop developer.

Based on our perception of users who would want the PS Eye, if Sony is lucky, 1 in 20 or 5% o...

Even if Skype shows up on PS4 it won't be integrated as the default messaging/call/video chat system, and since most PS4 owners don't ever intend on getting the PS Eye, it doesn't look likely to matter much. If I was MS I wouldn't see it as being worth the development time.

Its about the future potential. There's just no reason for any dev to work on the integrating the PS Eye into their software. There will be little to no return on the investment.

I hear people on their reasons for not wanting to buy an Xbox One at launch, but to me it has the most potential of the next generation consoles. I'll tell you why I want one at launch and it probably won't matter to most people for the launch, but it does to me.

I have a family who is spread across the world. We use Skype to communicate and while I was hoping Skype would come to the Xbox 360's Kinect, i understand why it didn't. Everyone in my family is getti...

I'm not gonna lie. This and The Order make getting a PS4 really tempting. Maybe I'll get it when those games come out.

In that case, the winner may be Microsoft since they sold at best 24M Xbox first generation units. In contrast Sony sold 155+M PS2s and Nintendo 64 sold a little over 30M. I'd give it to MS since they went from having little market mindshare to an even contender with Sony given that Sony was coming off of the success of the PS2. Nintendo Wii appealed to the casual gamer and most of their devices now collect dust as very few people still use them.

I've got one more.

Microsoft will partner with Cable and satellite companies and offer a subsidized Xbox One on a 2 year contract from between $99 to $199, and will outsell the PS4 in 2014 and every year after that.

Many won't like it, but MS adding the HDMI pass through means that the Xbox One can do what no other system to date can do and that's work WITH the current TV service providers and not be dependent on any one cable or satellite compan...

Its no different than what Google and Hulu do today, yet millions of people seem to like to use their products and don't have a problem with this.

You people are funny. No one knows how this service will work for sure, but I'll give you an idea how it might work. It could work like Hulu where if you sign up for the service you'll get a chance to interact with the type of ads that are shown during live broadcasts. You could interact where when a commercial comes on, you'll be asked if this advertisement is relevant or not. It could also offer an option to snap a web page to make a purchase or even open a dedicated app. Or it ...

I just want to know if there will be a chat pad and a media remote for accessories. The hunt and peck method drives me nuts.

4528d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

The two major things I want to know about as far as accessories for the Xbox One are...

1) Is there going to be a chat pad like accessory, because that saves me all kinds of time for inputting text.

2) Will the media remote for the Xbox 360 work with the Xbox One. If not, will there be a new version since TV is noted feature.

OK... let's be honest here, the fact that MS has sold virtually the same number of consoles this last generation as Sony is a huge WIN for MS who was trounced with the original Xbox by the PS2. All of the buss about how much more powerful the PS3 was going to be over the Xbox 360, meant that Sony should have just plain beaten the relatively new comer MS in the console wars. I'm just saying it was Sony's game to lose and a tie for them was really a loss. That year head start might...

I think its psychologically significant to developers which console sells the most and by how much, but if the PS4 sells say 5 million consoles and the XBox One sells 3.5 in the first 6 months, it won't make a difference. If it is a blow out say the PS4 sells 10 million and the Xbox One sells 3 million, then developers will flock to the PS4 over the XBox One.

Now here's the big unknown. MS is supposedly partnering with cable companies to sell the Xbox One. If they do ...
