I think that one piece of the puzzle that these guys are missing is the relationship MS has built with the cable/satellite industry. The cable and satellite industry is in decline due in no small part to the many streaming options now available around the world. They NEED something to not only stem the tide of cord cutters, but to attract new customers. While there are a number of places that have broadband, many don't have the capability to support IPTV services, but do have an already f...
"British English treats collective nouns (corporations, departments, etc.) as plural. American English treats them as singular. The size of the group is irrelevant."
I guess its relative to where you live.
I think this is to be expected with a new console. There will always be DOAs and malfunctions in the first few batches as it sometimes takes a few thousand units before the bugs in the manufacturing process are cleared out.
@Venomacr1227 You forgot to add on the $60 for the PS Eye if you want a fair comparison even though the PS Eye will never match the Kinect in terms of capabilities. So it would really be a $40 difference.
Can anyone confirm that Sony's flagship device will or will not play 3D Blue Rays? I'm seeing reports that it will not at launch despite Engadget reporting it would a few days ago.
Here is the link I saw based on the manual it says it will not play 3D Blue Rays.

What's funny is that Sony... I mean SONY's flagship entertainment product won't play 3D Blue Rays. MS got a ton of flack about this and of course here it will not get mentioned.
I love that 'Captain Slow" is talking about American Muscle cars.
The PS4 WILL outsell the Xbox One up to 3:1, which is great if you are into the PS4, until MS announces its partnerships with the Cable and Satellite companies with deals like "agree to a 2 year contract and get a free or low priced($99 - $199) Xbox One". Then the Xbox one will overtake and outsell the PS4 by a long shot since there are significantly more people who watch TV and would willing to jump in for such a low price. Once the cable/satellite companies start pushing it, it wo...
@LeCreuset
So... You're telling me that Sony Pictures (different from Sony Entertainment) would all of a sudden, stop licensing their movies(and the millions that go with it) to any cable company working with Microsoft just to support their gaming division? I think not despite Japanese culture or company solidarity.

I'd expect that MS will bring all of the apps on the Xbox 360 to Xbox One. What I'm hoping for is that MS will allow them to be region free. I'd love to be able to use BBC iPlayer here in the US.
I agree Monkeyfox. Its insane what we live with on cell phone contracts, but I can easily see the cable/satellite industry doing the same thing especially if MS throws in Xbox Live with the cable subscription. Its not really much money lost for MS and they would get their device into a ton more homes. The PS4 could get in on that market as well with streaming apps, but it doesn't have nearly the multitasking or guide capabilities that the Xbox One has. This is how MS has envisioned winni...
Just out of curiosity Monkeyfox, do you think many people in the UK would accept a deal of an Xbox One for say £99 on a 2 year Sky contract?

And the way things are going, your car, toaster, house, and anything else connected to a cellular network/internet.
Yep... My wife, her sisters, and nieces all are getting Xbox Ones in part for the exercise stuff. They intend to group Skype and work out together. I told her she has to get her own for the den, because I'm getting my Battlefield and Forza on in the living room.
One of the mistakes MS made was designing a system in comparison to another console. What they should have done is designed a system that could do all of the things they envisioned and make sure it ran at 1080P games with the potential to run at 4k for the future. I get it that they were trying to keep costs down, but apparently they are making a small profit on each system. Sony in contrast is loosing somewhere around $60/PS4. Sony's decision to do this is in part what is winning this ro...
Just so you know.. Even though Sony may not advertise it, they have to do the same thing if they want to sell their consoles in the US. The rules apply to everyone. And at any time Sony chooses to refuse to cooperate, they run the risk of having their products and services banned in the US. So yeah... they'll do whatever is asked of them too.
Not necessarily. There are protocols that could allow the carriers to not include traffic from a specific set of I.P. Addresses. None of the carriers charge for system text messages and if you sign up for the US Government's emergency alert services, you do not get charged for those messages either. So it would be easy for you to not notice when your phone's camera and mic are turned on and streaming.
I wish they would make the app to be able to capture up to 30 seconds of a game, upload it to you tube, and share it to your friends. I could see that being killer for sports fans.
