Well I'm getting both the reach console and the legendary edition. So combining them for $500 would have been a good deal for me.

I have an 80GB PS3 fat that I paid $499 for near when they first came out. I don't have any PS2 games and wanted to check if I have the backward compatible PS3 or not.
Is there anyway I can check by model numbers etc ?

Of course this was already known. It was stated shortly after E3, but Sony Fanboys kept making articles that a so called adaptor would cost an extra $50 and to use Kinect of an older model 360 will cost $200.
