Why is it a good business move? I don't know anyone who's gonna buy a different console just because the other one gets the exact same content just a few weeks earlier. I think all it does is annoy people on the other side.

You guys are so confused. You're still just gonna plug in and play. It's still gonna be a console. Microsoft's plan is not to allow console gamers to upgrade individual parts of the console, they're just going to release a new model with slightly more power than the old one to keep up with advancing technology. Both consoles this gen were already using outdated hardware by the time they came out so this doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. It's basically a console upgr...

You could say the same thing about the Xbox One Elite controller. No doubt that gives players an advantage in competitive games, but everyone seems to really love it. That's essentially what's going to happen with the console is they'll put out an "elite" version that's slightly more powerful for players who want it.

There won't be any parts upgrades. What's gonna happen is there will be a new upgraded version of the console that has more power than the previous, so you won't be making custom upgrades and swapping out different components.

New games will still run on both versions, they'll just look a little bit better on the more powerful one.

No he's saying you won't be swapping out parts at all, but they'll release an upgraded Xbox with a bit more power.

@Kingthrash

Before Spencer became the big boss he was in charge of Xbox games, so technically those are all still "under his helm"

Who said it's gonna be every 2 years? Who said anybody was gonna be forced to upgrade? Didn't Phil Spencer say the goal was for everything to be backwards and forwards compatible?

Sounds like you'll just have the option to get a more powerful console after a few years or so instead of waiting the 8 years for the next gen, but if you don't upgrade you can still play new games on the console you have.

I think it could work both Xbox and PS4 hard...

Gonna take a lot more than a $150 gpu to get games to run well on your PC buddy

@Grieve

Well the point of existence of the Xbox One is still the same of any console, it's more convenient than PC gaming, you don't need to know anything about graphics cards or RAM etc you just buy it and you can play all the games that come out on it. And if you wanna play the games like Quantum Break or whatever but don't wanna deal with all that PC upkeep then you can get an Xbox One. Pretty simple to understand.

As far as I know, nobody at M...

stiggs, stiggs, stiggs, my man stiggs

Buying anything you aren't going to use is just dumb whether you can afford it or not. I could go buy a $2 burger but if I don't ever eat it and just throw it away later it would've been a stupid purchase.

Back on topic, I realize what our friend slavish originally said, but I'm sure he understands there are people with expensive computers that aren't used for gaming, such as yourself. Maybe his wordin...

@stiggs again

I'm glad you feel the need to tell everyone how much money you make lol.

Look I believe you, but what I'm saying is that you aren't a PC gamer. You may have an expensive high end PC but you use it for work and not gaming so I just feel like using that as an example is pretty pointless.

So the point is about PC gamers, which is what I think slavish is intending to say. That someone who is willing to put the money and ...

I don't believe they mean for it to have swappable components that you can upgrade yourself like a PC. I think all they intend is to basically release a "slim" version of the Xbox One that in addition to the usual upgrades you get from slim consoles (bigger/faster hard drive, smaller dimensions, runs quieter/cooler, and so on) will also have slightly more power.

You could still play new games on your current Xbox One if you want to. You don't have to upgrade...

@stiggs

Is your $2100 "PC" a Mac? Look I get having disposable income and all that but if you're spending $2000+ on a gaming PC that you never play games on, you're more in the realm of just making stupid decisions.

Most people who are gonna throw down thousands of dollars on a gaming PC are probably gonna be playing games on that PC. That doesn't mean they won't also own a console for exclusives or for other reasons, but if you'...

I don't see how that's different from upgrading to a slim version later. It's basically the exact same thing only with the added benefit of a little extra power.

3624d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Not always. Don't quote me on this because I don't remember for sure but wasn't Witcher 3 delayed also? Basically what I mean is that sometimes delaying a game means that the game will actually be finished when it comes out.

I don't even own a PS4 yet, I'm mainly am Xbox guy, but I was a fan of the Uncharted series last gen. Too many games release nowadays unfinished and lacking content, so if they have to delay the game a few times in order to release a f...

It is true because it was an intentional decision made by 343 for the Arena. Arena is supposed to be very competitive so joining into a game that's half over on the losing team isn't very fun. Neither is your teammates quitting and leaving the rest of the team at a disadvantage but that's why there are quit bans to discourage that.

In Halo, I always found split screen was useful for testing out my Forge maps and custom game types, making sure all the team settings and spawns are working the way I want them to, etc.

Also, and I know I'm in the minority here, but I do have a group of friends who regularly come over to my place and we'll just watch movies, play games, hang out whatever. We used split screen quite a bit in Halo playing custom games together and just having some fun.
