Idiot, Sony removed the backwards compatibility to reduce production costs, which were needed to compete with Wii & 360.
Also if you were after BC, launch consoles were the way to go. I still have my Original Fat 60Gigger(upgraded to 640Gb), it still going strong. Best purchase I've made in years.
Sony removed BC in launch PS3's to get cost down. That worked, which is why we have the Slim now.

PlayStation brand is more wider known worldwide than Xbox brand. So they don't need to spend the same. The Brand sells itself for the most part.

Sony already has scanning real world objects for games patented.
Doubt that feature will end up on Kinect.

They can have a requirement to use the lastest FW to use some features or play online etc.
If Kinect gets a controller, then MS 'Your the controller' goes out the window.
Since EyeToy did 'Your the controller' years ago, I can't believe MS is trying to dupe gamers. By them saying that Kinect is new. It's an Eyetoy nothing more.

The PSEye can do 120FPS at low res & 60FPS at hires
Kinect does low res at 30FPS and not particularly well, Kinect is a joke and total lag fest.
Probably just an old build, thats used for demo's as it stable. The devs are probably still pollishing the code for final release.
To many things to consider.
Currencies, Licensing laws, Copyrights, ratings, Lanuages. Thats the reason that other companies don't do one store.A logistic nightmare.
