Region coding hasn't hampered DVDs, have they? If anything that was HD DVD's downfall. No region-coding=movie studios reluctant to back the format.

Sony and Philips gave into the Toshiba led consortium way back during the DVD days (the Toshiba led consortium was much bigger than Sony and Philips).
Toshiba was given a chance to do the same, and refused. Even though Sony came to the DVD forum with Blu-Ray way before DVD Forum even had an alternative. To me, the DVD Forum was just being lazy. The BDA were innovative.

The good thing is, both companies will learn from this generation (Nintendo learned from the last one). Sony will not introduce a console at $US600 again. If they squeeze in a $399 or $349 next gen, they will be very successful. I think this is possible as CD-DVD-BD evolution I think will be stunted in the next gen. They intro'd PS1 late into CD's life, PS2 early in DVD's life, PS3 before BD's life.

Umm, some people need to put their business hat on. MS has obviously sold more than 10 Million since inception. If MS reported 9.2M sold on January 7, 2008, it is obvious they are talking about a smaller time frame, such as calendar year 2007.

As long as it stays close in the US, PS3 is doing good. They are outselling the 360 basically everywhere else. But even in the US I believe 360 will saturate their market, giving the PS3 a chance.

Just like PS3 haters say they buy consoles to play games, not watch movies, I buy movies to watch them, not go online or watch some PiP crap. Pip to me is like the annoying friend telling you, during the movie, what they read about the movie on the internet. STFU until after the movie.
